If I was doing the filthy rich thing (and apart from a Banff Mossie) , I would donate the money to Hendon so that they could restore the Halifax. Whilst I recognise why she is sitting there like she is, I imagine what she could look like standing tall once again………maybe the Canadian chaps would like to take the task on?lol
Very sad news.
RIP. He deserves it.
Certainly one to ponder…
I actually appreciate the participation of re-enactors at events. It is interesting to see, often educational and lends colour to photographs. Having said that, I still maintain that there are many who participate in this activity who like the kudos that they get by wearing a uniform and being associated with people who performed extraordinary deeds in extraordinary times. Ponder the fact that you don’t see too many chaps dressed as cooks/clerks/batting staff/members of the grave registration teams etc. It just aint sexy. In many years of attending this type of event, I have also failed to find many individuals who have actually served and/or seen action. I wonder why?
Shades of grown ups playing soldiers……….yes……quite a lot of the time and IMHO it is the people who ‘fall over’ in mock battles, dress their kids in Hitler Youth uniforms and put ‘dead’ manequins in cockpits that reinforce this view.
But hey………….its a free world……….what the heck!!lol

Albert,
Living in a free world means that sometimes, you have to put up with people doing what they please. The beauty of attending airshows/events in the western world is that the bulk of the aircraft pottering about were built to defend that right. Just in case someone cries “incoming….”, I am an enthusiast and I am still serving in an organisation that defends your right to say what you want on here…….it works both ways.
Personally I think that ‘mountains’ and ‘mole hills’ spring to mind (it was hot for goodness sake!).
The small circular stamp certainly looks like an inspectors stamp, but as for the rest……who knows?
I will try to get a pic or two on here in the next few day.
Cheers

Kev,
As a close suburb of Wolverhampton, Wednesfield was heavily built up in 45. I think that it will not have changed much since that time.
The local paper is the “Express and Star”.

Best of luck to one and all. You deserve a real pat on the back for your efforts. I am just trying to recall my first Flt Sgt (circa 1988) telling me about a cache of Whitleys towed from an airfield around the Elgin/Nairn area and dumped in a local quarry at the end of the war……….
