I imagine that the integration of these systems would have delayed the order (mostly bureaucratically) and, hence, they have not been incorporated.

    Here for example:

Kenya says it destroys two al Shabaab camps in Somalia

    Reuters.com

Thanks Tomcat. Anyone have any idea whether Kenya’s F-5s can still field their AGM-65s or whether we’re talking about dumb bombs and rockets here?

In either event, it seems less than likely that this attack will have been highly effective unless it caught the trainee terrorists napping.

No link I’m afraid as I’m on a mobile device but Kenyan jets have been widely reported to have bombed terrorist training cynics in neighbouring Somalia.

What is known? Four NK-32 (+), the air intake under the front edge of the wing (like the deck of aircraft A-12). Take-off weight (~ 15,000 kg * 4): 0.25 = 240000 kg.

Can’t say how I will feel if the PAK-DA ends up looking like an hugely up-scaled McDonnell Douglas A-12… I had my heart set on it being a bit nippier 😎 (something like a supersonic up-scaled A-12?)

    Interesting blog on PAK-DA:

    http://theaviationist.com/2015/03/24/russia-strategic-aviation-updates/

I say ‘interesting’ but I have a lot of problems with what’s written here…

Indeed, many believe the Russian industry lacks technology and resources to produce the PAK-DA

Many may believe Russian industry lacks the technology but I don’t… there’s no doubt Russian industry is capable of producing a new bomber – the question is how good it will be (i.e. how well it will perform in the missions that it is eventually assigned). As for resources – well, they are there in spite of recent economic difficulties, the question is whether they will be distributed in the direction of this programme or allocated to something else.

As to the geopolitical analysis at the end; the less said the better.

    Sad news indeed. RIP.
The entire fleet has been grounded as a result, I hear.

What’s gone down recently is really mostly a “rally ’round the flag”-effect. Good comparisons would be Thatcher and the Tories right around the Falkland crisis, or indeed the POTUS (for whose popularity ratings the term was originally coined) every time the US gets involved in something that spurs patriotism.

Case in point (G.W. Bush approval ratings):

Then you have three other main factors pertaining to V.V. Putins general popularity – namely the abysmal job his predecessor did, the very tangible improvement of peoples lives in Russia under Putin and the lack of any credible alternatives. In other words, it’s no wonder he’s heaps popular and there’s no need to ascribe it to propaganda or personality cults or anything like that.

Well, it was just a tongue-in-cheek comment but good response!

I guess Russia didn’t get enough trouble with Chechnya. Ukraine would be Chechnya many times over if they decide to fully invade that country. Meanwhile likenesses like this are appearing all over Moscow as Putin builds on his cult of personality.
