    Cranfield Lightnings

Back in the early to mid Ninties, I was involved in doing a volume calculation survey of a number of topsoil heaps on the Southern End of the Airfield.
Whilst I was there, there were also six lightnings lined up side by side in various squadron markings (IIRC), these were also on the southermost end of the airfield.
does anyone here know what year this was, what aircraft they were, why they were there, what became of them? does anyone have a photo of the line-up?

Lets all watch ‘A Piece of Cake’ tonight then, and get it all into perspective.

I too am curious as to what you mean by ‘perspective’. Would you care to elaborate?

    Beer Carrying Spitfires

A photo of a Spitfire carrying a keg under each wing can be found in Johnnie Johnsons book ‘Wing Leader’, along with an explaination as to why this particular modification was made. If memory serves me correctly these Spits were fondly referred to as ‘Dreys’.

In his book ‘Best Foot Forward’ which I read again this week, Colin Hodgkinson says himself that he was shipped into Liverpool upon his repatriation.

Bl**** Hell, what a small world! I grew up in Clophill man & boy, moved to the village when I was 9 and lived there from 1969 to 1996. I remember the displays very well. Also remember as a boy, playing around the Old Church and seeing the results of desecration caused by some ‘would be’ Satanists. Idiots more like!!!

Am I right in thinking that Frank Carey was a midget? he just seems to be way out of scale with the aircraft. Compare the diameter of the mainwheel to the height of his knee for example and he’s closer to the camera too!

A top R/C model Boeing B17 currently on ebay, used in series ‘we’ll meet again’, 12ft wingapan, £8,000 asking price (at moment). Looks like a beautiful bit of kit. check out the link,(copy & paste).

Can’t see the german people offering a formal apology for Hitler, The Nazi Party, V-weapons targetted at innocent civilians after the war was already a lost cause for the Axis, and lastly, let’s not even start to talk about the Holocaust!!

Sorry, just a quick rant from a rather annoyed person who lost relatives in the blitz.
