She’s still missed in Lelystad! I wonder what’s happened to the prop, looks like delamination on those blades. There are some items missing too, I do hope they’re not using her as a Christmas tree.

Front up with your Guilders and buy her back?

Or better still, wait until it has had the HFL magic bestowed upon it, is airworthy, (and not gathering (Dutch) dust in an airless museum), THEN buy her back.

    Simples.

That would be my interpretation as well.

For want of an angle of attack indicator, any aircraft is perfectly flyable without power as long as proper airspeed is maintained (e.g best glide). Propeller airflow over control surfaces is not required, certainly not when touching down (where any airflow from the idling propeller would have negligable effect).

Not entirely true, and in fact, misleading.

The ‘negligible airflow’ from a 1600hp RR Merlin is quite noticeable, even at idle.

“…as long as proper airspeed is maintained…” What, in the Flare?

Talk to the Shuttleworth boys about your statement!

Pics here of the other way:

Used all the time on helicopters which have retractable gear.

Guess that’s where they got the idea – it hovers, doesn’t it?

Great write up EM, I was at Headcorn today flying and even in the short time I was there a customer came in and made a serious enquiry about a Spitfire flight.
Serious question, is Keith Perkins a lottery winner?

Serious Answer: None of your business.

Pen Pusher – I’m open to persuasion if you know otherwise and would care to enlighten us.

Can we stick to aeroplane chat please – not the finer points of the English Education System…!

    Ta.

Possibly, if their landing fees are cheaper than those at Southend. Which I believe are now the best part of £30
    for a small aircraft.

    £75

You won’t be seeing many of these here from now on…..!

As you are aware, there were many variation of the Stripes-Scheme.

For the Invasion, yard-brush application (which you allude to).

Later, Upper surfaces stripes deleted with the Upper hand of the Allied Forces.

And then there was Operation Starkey….

…and the Typhoon scheme to differentiate it from the similarly shaped Fw 190…

    …and the Half fuselage stripes…!

    Discuss.

Cheers Tony, sounds like that could be it for Popham? A great shame.

As Bruce quite rightly pointed out, if you naysayers keep bashing it on a Forum, then others will be put off from attending. Is that what you want?

Was there Sat and today. Great atmosphere, weather and a host of excellent goodies from the stalls.

    Had it? Quite definitely NOT.

    But I think you have…. 🙂

PS. As I said previously… you don’t have to go to Popham. So don’t.

    Jeez!

You don’t HAVE to attend, do you?

Popham has to make money to survive as working airfield, and the Aerojumbles, etc, are a means to do that. Why post pages and PAGES of (private) letters on the subject from the current Manager when all you wish is a spleen-vent and sympathy? He has a job to do, and is doing it.

Take the weekend off, go to the pub (walk – saves you money) and calm down, will you?

Now, can we get back to discussing aeroplanes again…?

    Welcome MindOverMatter (Mark).

I have been involved with some background research at Ludford Magna and East Lindsey District Council has an aviation booklet that features that base, you can see a PDF version here – if you send me a postal address via Private Message (PM) I will send you a printed copy. 🙂

The Blyton information is also interesting and I visited the airfield a few weeks ago as part of another project. I will send you message via PM about that. Your post this morning has brightened up what looks set to be a grey day here in Nottinghamshire.

    Excellent stuff. very thought provoking.

Look forward to op Grapple as have an interest in that department.

    Keep it coming! And Thanks.
