actually one of the most realistic movies (at times) was Memphis Belle, especially the parts when the Belle is under attck and the gunners have only a second to aim and shoot. I thought it conveyed the real confusion and quickness of air battles. The fact that the gunners rarely had a long burst at a target was quite real. The crew scenes and flying for the most part was realistic. Of course some Hollywood had to be injected, like the last scene with the pumping of the gear. Off to fly some C-17 NVG approaches!

    wysiwyg,

quick question, I know your flying the newer buses, but do You know if the A-310 stabilizer is composite or metal? I know the Rudder is composite, but a friend who flies A-300-600’s for American has told me that the A-310’s are metal with composite rudders, and the A-300-600’s are all composite.
I’m very curious about what happened here

    Hammer,
I’m a USAF Pilot. During the 80’s and 90’s I flew C-141’s. When we had the two-tone green “lizard” camouflage on our flight plans we listed the color as “NATO Green”
when we switched to the standard Grey we just write “grey”
    Hope this helps

    Turbo NZ,

The war would have lasted as long as it took 5 B-29’s to nuke Germany even deeper into the stone age. Plus the Brits had Meteors the US had F-80’s ….coming on line in large numbers

I was at USAF Pilot Training when it came out in 86, I can’t tell you guys how many young girls made a pilgrimmage to Columbus AFB to meet real “Top Guns” (At least we thought we were!) I got some real mileage at the bars from the movie, especially when I could boast I fly the “black Jet the bad guys fly in Top Gun” when I was in T-38’s.
I do remember the movie theater was full of Pilots and we all laughed at how many regs were being violated during each scene….Like flying fingertip formation while your lead had an engine-inop emergency and the list goes on!

flying heavy iron for the USAF, and 727’s civilian employer. But some of my fondest memories were of flying Piper Warriors! I think its a great plane, and if I can ever save up enough cash I’d love to buy one!!! Enjoy every minute!

    Blackcat,
Arthur is right! What your proposing is an entirely different aircraft that can’t accomplish any mission, plus I’m sure it would be ridiculously expensive! Its like marrying a fat ugly girl, and saying if she had the body of Pam Anderson, and the face of Charleze Theron, she would be hot!! just curious, how old are you? if you don;t mind me asking

The wingman would serve as the eyes of the formation, scanning the sky around the lead (shooter) Basically the lead was the shooter, so he could concentrate on aiming and shooting, while his wingman would protect his flanks. You may be having a hard time understanding the concept because If you watch too many hollywood movies the wingmen are flying a very tight formation with lead. In reality the wingman flies a loose formation with lead which insures flexibility and safe clearance while manuevering.

    Dave,

Your first paragraph misses the point. Of course no Europeans wanted to send their sons to war, the problem is it was a European war!!America had nothing to do with Hitlers invasion of Poland, nor England and France’s pact o aid Poland. Like I said try to put yourself back in 1939, the US wasn’t a superpower, it had a large economy but a tiny military and was a small player on the world stage, so there was no imperative to get involved in another European war.
You seem to know alot about the businessmen of the period, but Rockefeller and Ford weren’t the entire US business community. I don’t doubt some made millions dealing with Hitler…thankfully we all wised up soon enough.
As far as whats going on today, Your probably right, I wouldn’t want to hear your opinions! 3,000 Americans die in a terrorist attack, and I guess we should just roll over and try to “understand” why these animals attcked. I will guarantee one thing,If New Zealand gets attacked I know who would come to your aid..I’m reading a book called “Raid on the Sun” about the Israeli attck on the Iraqui nuclear facility in 1981. It’s an interesting read, You’d appreciate it because it revolves more around the jets and mission, and less about the politics, but one question keeps coming up:
Why did Saddam Hussein want a Nuclear reactor so bad, when He was sitting on the second largest oil reserves in the world?
