I’ve flown WOW a few times now and had to take the bus for MAN-PLH once because G-WOWB got stuck in the snow a BRS. They did get a coach to leave dead on time but ofcouse it arived in Plymouth a wee bet later that advertised!. Havent as yet been on a replacment aircaft yet but I am doing two trips next week with them and a change of machienry world be a nice surpise. I rate them very highley, some of the BA lagacy remains with this LCC which means they do look after you pretty well.
err 13.900km = 7.505nm. just thought I’d mention it.
If you really are presenting to the board remember that they will want to see a complete design concept. How will your ideas look on advertising, web site, stationary, signage etc. Make sure you have a complete package for them. The other thing you need to do is justify it all. The big question will be ‘how will this make more money for the company?’ If you can’t answer this then you haven’t got a hope! Time to role out all the wanky business lingo you can muster. ‘I feel that this design signifies a dynamic airline that is looking to the future…..!’
As for my opinion I rather like it. I’m not sure of the red roof though, I think you would do well to produce an orthographic projection to clearly show how this design would look in the real. If your feeling really flash you could render it in a 3d package. This will give a very good idea of what the real thing would look like but as I said the livery is only a small part of the package so don’t forget the rest of it. Good Luck.
Although in general I agree that this is going to deter some passengers you have got to admit that FR are usually right. In the past every aspect of the LCC format has been damned as a ‘step to far’, yet Ryanair, Easy, Southwest etc are still here, still doing a roaring trade.
Think back to the early ‘90s and remember what people said about not having meals, unreserved seating, regional airports, no IFE. All these ideas were dismissed as unworkable because passengers wouldn’t stand for it. It seems that people will put up with a lot of things as long as the fare is low.
“One bag in every 100 goes missing” That can’t be right can it? Seems very high to me.
Be fare! This is going to of benefit punters as well, I think it is great news. And I don’t think 7kilos was mean anyway, many airlines say 5kg for hand bags. You have got to bare in mind that faster turnarounds mean less delays, increased efficiency, lower fares. COOL! Cheaper Faster Better!
Does anyone know when I will be able to book a VS flight to oz? I have looked at their web site but no joy. I ask because I am about to book a flight there and would like to check out how much VS are going to be, the best I’ve found so far is £850 with BA.
I’ve flown backwards loads on Dash 8s, it is a bit weird at first during take off but after that there is really no difference. I also remember flying backwards on RAF flights but I was a kid so don’t remember the aircraft type, seemed normal at the time as these were the only flights we ever took
Newcastle is about an hour and a half longer on the train than Leeds but with essentially the same flight time which gives flying a significant time advantage.
Bare in mind that even if Jet2 offered advance fairs of zero, just charging taxes etc, the cost of a return would be around £20-25, the cheapest advance rtn on the train is £19 so there is no way Jet2 could compete on price. Given that it would be imposable to offer a cost saving or a time saving I really do not think that it would work.
Don’t get me wrong I would love to see a low cost service to London from LBA, and yes I would rather fly than get the train but for most travellers how they get there is not as important. The train is quicker, cheaper, and with over 15 services each way each day I don’t think Jet2 could ever make it successful.
I don’t think LBA-LGW is viable, it is quicker to take the train. Leeds To Kings Cross takes between 2 and 2 and half hours. The flight time would be about an hour but when you include check in times, waiting to board, the flight, taxiing at LGW, arrivals and baggage claim and finally getting the train to London you are looking at a time of at least the same as the train direct if not more. The only real advantage to doing the trip is to connect with other flights from LGW and for onward travel to the south coast of England. A large number of destinations from LGW are also available from MAN, NCL and of course LBA.
A LCY link is different as I think business links to the City could prove very successful.
Nice work mate
“As part of their standard flight package, passengers will now receive larger seats, a choice of meal and widescreen 7″ seatback entertainment.”
Larger seats? I’ll believe it when I see it!
FlyBe could prove tough competion for Air South West who have also just started a BRS-JER service. Does anyone know how good their load factors are?
I went on an IL-96 a few years ago from SVO-BKK-SVO with SU. Although there was no IFE it was a very comfy ride. Very hard landings though and I wish PAX on Russian flights didn’t clap and cheer when the plane lands, really is very disconcerting.
Had the same happen to me with WOW a few weeks ago, although I thought the ground staff at both PLH and MAN were very helpful and a bus was found pretty quickly. I think that one of their planes is always having maintenance on Saturdays, they’ve only got two but only run a half schedule (PLH/NQY – LGW only) on Saturdays. I’m back on them next week, despite the odd coach trip I think they’re great!
