I think that Newquay is a much overlooked airport. FR have a STN service and WOW have a LGW one. Given that PLH is titchy and has no room for expansion, it seems to me that there is a huge catchment area with only a limited amount of flights. Add to this the huge tourist potential of incoming passengers and I would have thought that NQY would be quite busy. Anyone know why it is not?

In April 1992 I flew Virgin to EWR from LHR and they had just installed little 3-4 inch screens with six channels! At the time I thought this was great and only a matter of months until all planes would have them. Here we are 12 years on and still it is possible to fly a long way with a major airline and not have PTV! Incidentally I managed to remove mine, the unit had a rubber surround fixed with Velcro, when you removed this there were some little screws that I removed using the knife that came with my dinner! This proved much more entertaining that the pants film that was on! I still have the knife as a souvenir. I put the screen back as I did not want to cut the wires 😀

I was supposed to be flying MAN-PLH on the 12th of March with Air Southwest. Turned up for check in and was told the aircraft was stuck in the snow at BRS and that a bus was going to take us. 6 hours on the bus and it cost a lot more that National Express! Tried again this week and it was much better, just writing a trip report now.

A few years ago on an Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia flying with now defunct Flight West the pilots were both openly smoking in the cockpit, cockpit door was open for most of the flight! Cheeky sods even had the nerve to do the whole ‘this is a non smoking flight’ routine! Great flight though, with a much missed airline. RIP Flight West:(
