Well me and the lads could have sworn it was blue, but having looked at shots of the aircraft it could well have been this one.
Shame he didn’t get down a bit so we could get a better look!
Hmmm – certainly a late model, PR blue and D-Day markings. Coupled with the fact certain ex-jag pilots are at BBMF we figured he was paying a return visit.
Must be the RR one then……… still around as of 1400 isf formating with a Yak
And nobody’s suggested TSR2 yet!
Very sad.
4 crew – Lynx or Puma?
I posted this on Historic a week or so ago, but I suppose it fits this thread well enough too
I got rid of the text to the left, and I did wonder about the effect in the cockpit, but it does look real to me.
If you were going to edit a picture to use, you’d use the right type of aircraft wouldn’t you?
OK – got the picture from the magazine. I made an error from memory – the gear’s up. Ignore the title – the article was ‘lads mag’ on ‘how I survived ejecting over hostile territory’ stuff – not matched to the picture.
http://www.ukserials.com has it delivered as 4 March 1965
And a quick look on Google can fill in some blanks:
Sep 1968 she was ‘S’ with 845 NAS
1980 ‘LS810’ with 781 NAS
and looks like she ended up as ‘824’ with 771 NAS before being allocated maintenance serial A2692

Is that just dirt on the wing over the missing No1 engine or soot/fire damage?
😡
Its not the end of the Jaguar quite yet! Just a relocation for the last 18 months of service.
Hang on – did you really mean a Swift flying?! 😮
Further to my earlier statement about Cavour being equiped for CTOL, not only was the Bucc heavier, but its landing speed was 165 kts.
Typhoon and Rafale are around 130 kts approach speed and lighter than Buccaneer.
No, she wouldn’t be ideal due to somewhat small deck, but she could fly CTOL if equiped with catapult and arrestor gear.
I was doing some thinking on the Cavour and it’s air wing if F35B falls by the wayside.
Cavour is 232m long.
Hermes was 235m ( 774′ ) – she operated Buccaneers and Sea Vixens in her time, some pretty heavy bits of kit. The Bucc was 28000 kg max as opposed to Typhoons 21000 kg.
Modern jets are pretty fast off the ground too, so would Rafale or a navalised Gripen be viable if she was fitted with CTOL gear?
Maybe some will come up for disposal this year as the RAF winds down its Canberra spares.
Regarding Typhoon not flying at night, a quick Google produced enough complaints from residents near Coningsby about 0300 take offs to give the truth to that story.
