    CLASSIC KEMBLE 2009

I missed last years Kemble due to work commitments. I live local so have been going to the airdays since the start. They can be a bit simular each year at times with Delta Jets dominating… This years Show has to be the best for overall content and diversity. A very big well done to all the airshow team.:):):):)

Its a case of the sale of the centry again!!! A very marginal aircraft being offered to NATO and marketed as the best thing since sliced bread. Think Lockheed, think F-104 Starfighter. Dont get me wrong the F-104 has loads of WOW factor but its only real performance was in speed and zoom climb. Not the best of attibutes when its main role in USAF and NATO was low level delivery of nuclear bombs.Or should I say that was the job it ended up doing.

    TURBULANCE

Does turbulance show on the type of radar used by airliners….I think not. Turbulance is avoided by forecasting and ‘ride reports’ from from airliners operating in the same area. Pilots change flight level and speed to improve ‘ride’ and passanger comfort.

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE SWIFT….

Yes as the other forum member said……But it did find usefull service in the daytime photo recon role at low level. Yes early Hunters suffered flame outs from gun gas ingestion. This only was a problem on Avon powered Hunters, solved by the fitting of small blast deflectors at the gun ports. Saphire powered Hunters did not have the same problem.

    Leaps in capabality…..

Interstingly when the performance of the Canberra was proved by flight testing, ‘Teddy’ Petter said we must build a fighter to catch it! (EE Lightning)
The only area wear the Lightning was at an disadvantage against a Canberra was in high altitude manuvering. So Fighter Controllers was taught to set up that part of the Intercept at a lower altitude against a high flying Target, before the final climb to intercept altitude. Controllers and pilots had to work hard to get an intercept in some circumstances, but I never heard of a failed intercept. As I may have indicated before, Firesreak and Red Top had good performances as well against expected targets.

    Ugly aircraft

The X-32 has to be one of strangest aircraft ever! How could it be stealty with an intake like that? Let alone supersonic. What possesed Boeing to invest in such a project for the reqirement. I think Boeing have lost the plot just lately. Just look at B.787 fiasco. Also the shape of the vertical and horizontal tailplanes origanaly looked like an old fashioned can opener! The Lightning has a lot of brutish charm, I even like the F.mk 6 with its bigger under side fuel tank fairing!
