Met that John Brompton bloke when I was doing some flying in Dundee a few years ago. We used to think how unrealiable and dangerious that tiny little thing looked! He was very proud and protective of it, as we found out one day when we were shouted at for placing our a/c covers on top of his beloved plane (we thought it was a table under some sheets)
Glad it all ended well.
Bet he is enjoying all this attention :diablo:
again a very friendly forum reply .
the reason the plane was banking is due to getting the aircraft on the right flightpath .also if you was on the plane it would not have been as severe as it looked from inside the plane .i hope this helps to explain it a little
Were you flying it?
Deano already pointed that out as a likely reason anyway, can’t be certain it was that though… What a strange discussion!
Corrupt, gun loving homephobe with an unmarried pregnant daughter named… ‘Bristol’ sounds perfect for the job!

Best of luck Dan with your travels! look forward to seeing the photos! 🙂

I think it’s a good idea!
Depends on the situation – obv a common-sense approach is needed. Security might be an issue in some locations but not on the whole I wouldn’t think.
I sometimes go in the Co-Op at Carterton, which is right next door to Brize Norton. Always people in uniform shopping in there and nobody looks twice. Elsewhere though where it’s uncommon you get all sorts of looks, not always negative I should point out. I’m only a cadet though, not an RAF officer so perhaps it’s different (comments like “don’t you look young to be..”) ..actually I’m a cadet at volunteer gliding sqn not RAF… etc.

Yes definately worth giving your local ATC sqn a try. I joined exactly 3 years ago this week, and on Monday I’m going up to Dundee to do a Flying Scholarship. I’m lucky enough to fly the Grob Vigilant every weekend and hope to do my PPL soon at a local flying school.
Also off to RAF Akrotiri this Easter, plus RIAT and lots more in the summer so these opportunities are there if you want them!!
Consider getting a part time job when you can and start saving for a PPL… and obviously get the best grades you can a GCSE/A Level.
Best of luck!
Joe
Rob – Great to see photos at BRS from different locations!
Well done! Must have been cold up there!
Joe
Thanks for providing the link to the AAIB report Propstrike.
I don’t know why ATC didn’t send the faster a/c behind him around instead… the last thing you want on a 2nd solo is something like that! Such a depressing report to read. 🙁
Congratulations Dean! 🙂
I can imagine a huge sense of relief after all your hard work and money has gone into this. You fully deserve to have your dream as an airline pilot fulfilled, and please do continue to keep us updated on your progress!
With everying stacked against you, your achievement is greater than most and so it really goes to show how your passion and determination for flying has got you to where you want to be! A shining example for all of us to follow I think! One day I hope to be following in your footsteps!
All the best!
Joe
Well Congratulations! 😀
I really hope you enjoy your new job and get a lot out of it. I’m sure you will with your passion for aviation – all the best and well done! It’s great to have another forum member get a job inside the industry.
Regards,
Joe
Happy Birthday Rich!!! 😀
Hope you have a great day!
Joe
I’ll be there from Thursday to Monday! 🙂 and it’s free for us!
Can’t wait for it!
Joe
MK currently have seven 747’s on strength. No mention of DC9’s and no photos of them on ‘Airliners’?
You mean DC-8s!!! …which are being withdrawn from the fleet soon if they haven’t been already. I spent a week with MK a few years ago on some work exp and they did an engine run on 9G-MKF (DC-8-55) and let me sit in the FE’s seat! :p
I wouldn’t say Filton’s worth a visit either, there’s never a lot going on unless you’re lucky enough to catch at a busy time.
BRS however is well worth it! 😀
