Does MKI incorporate any LCA derived tech in it or would it get any tech from the LCA programme in future? like the RCs/SPs? Does Project vetrivale for the MKI and systems developed for the LCA have anything in common? thanks.

HAL to go into supersonic mode ๐
Monday May 15 2006 00:00 IST
BANGALORE: Five years after the first indigenous developmental fighter took to the air after complaints of time and technology gaps, the defence PSU – Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) – has now decided to go into supersonic mode.
HAL chairman Ashok Baweja told this website’s newspaper that the fifth prototype vehicle, trainer and the first of the eight Limited Series Production (LSP) will join the programme this year. These aircraft will help accelerate the initial operational clearance for the LCA.
On Saturday, PV2, among a cluster of four jets built, turned supersonic with air-to-air missiles on board. Scientists of the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) said it was a big leap forward in the project as the jet was now propelled into operational test light mode.
โโAs for the LCA project, it is a war-room like situation at HAL. I am getting daily inputs from officers on the progress made in the project,โโ the HAL chief said.
HAL has now taken up the challenge to complete the eight LSPs and 20 more aircraft within three years. The IAF will induct these delta-winged worldโs lightest fighter aircraft by 2010 to replace its ageing fleet of MiGs.
The PSUโs focus now is on stepping up the pressure on this strategically important project to ensure that there are no further delays. Three more aircraft, which will join the test flying envelope later this year, will increase the number of aircraft used for certification.
In all, four LCAs, two technology demonstrators and two prototypes had logged over 525 flights.
Not just HAL, but even the ADA has accelerated the programme to the next level by putting a radar on the aircraft and is taking up a weaponisation programme by fitting pylons on the PV2.
The PV2 is a much lighter aircraft and possesses advanced software technology, unlike the Test Demonstrator I, II and PV1. There is a quantum jump in the build standard of PV2, which is a software intensive fourth generation combat aircraft built to production standard. Besides having a high percentage of composite materials in its airframe structure, it incorporates a state-of-the-art, integrated, modular avionics system with open architecture concepts to facilitate easy hardware and software upgrades and re-usability.
The avionics system of Tejas PV II provides excellent pilot vehicle interface in a glass cockpit which has an all-round panoramic view to reduce the pilotโs workload and to increase situational awareness.

I find this argument useless as the indian flamers are the same one that claim MiG-23 superiority over F-14s and Mig-29K better than F-35…
Mabe in their tiny minds all equipement operated by india are superior and thus Indian aerospace industry must not be far off or even ahead of other aerospace giants…
oh please!!!dont try to act as a clairvoyant here. Indians here even acknowledged chinese aviation is a bit ahead that of India’s, but what happened .. trolls came into picture. GD kept on saying Chinese just dosent care abt India and whatever India does and all he wrote and his tone was just the contrary. Wasnt TinWing a chinese who came up with all his BS!! If you guys are not at all interested, why start this thread?? heck even GD agrees with this
That means nothing for the pakistani F-16 deal. In the white house the India pakistan situation is not as important as what realy matters. India is being built up to face china so the US dosnt have to. Basically India will continue spending vast sums of money on defence (hopefully in the US), whilst hundreds of millions of Indias own population continue to live in poverty and the aids epidemic continues unabated, so that the US can keep its own defence spending down and not have to worry to much about china.
Crap talk abt population and standard of living never ceases to stop ain’t it!!! or oh wait! is it ur desperation that u start India’s poverty issue in a pakistan’s missile discussion thread. Its u who ought to sleep my friend. Plain stupidity at its best  . or why is it bcos..like some chinese posters say here Indians are not good at olympics they dont need a military? ๐
Back on topic, DP, there were articles abt transfer of Babur missile tech to turkey. Do u have any info on this? any articles?
There are reports floating around, abt the deal being split between 2 vendors. One for sea ops for the Navy..and the other usual MRCA. IMO, going by the list of MRCA contenders, SH, Rafale — both are for naval aviation, especially the SH. MiG 35, Gripen, F-16s — the MRCA. Going by the recent MiG 29K acquisition for vikramaditya and future orders for ADS too, MiG 35 cud fit in nicely for the Navy!! IMO the deal will be split between SH/Rafale and MiG 35s. Which one could go to the Navy is only a speculation.
IAF to level of the PLAAF?.
If your lucky that is ๐
Ouch!!! someone got hurt ๐
Nationalism makes what Oracle’s forum what it is. You want intelligent discussion try **** (or so I ve been told…never been allowed to set foot in it, which I guess is a good thing).
So its Nationalism that forms the core of all discussion and drives the debate and discussions. Russians think they have really good mousetraps that are overshadowed by american spin doctoring, Chinese buy these mousetraps coz they gots tons of money and then attempt to make their own klones, Indian have a colonial chip on their shoulder so they buy from the Russians and anyone else who wants to sell and then tinker with it (and discuss the tinkering to death on BRF) and claim to make a better mousetrap thereby pissing off the Chinese who know they have already made a million copies of the better mousetrap already. And all this while the Packees think that american mousetraps are good but they only get Chinese mousetraps which are 10x better than Indian mousetraps, but there are no mice to catch since they are being trained for a jihad…so they spend their time on PDF commissioning Chinese to photochop pics where folks on BR split hair about building the better Indian mousetrap.
Then you have those token players: swedes, french, italians etc…they will sell you the best mousetrap….but you cant use it to catch mouse coz the mouse are oppressed. And other candle kisser who wonder what all this ballyhoo is about. Its better spent going off to Russian and other places taking pics of various angles of mousetraps.
Finally there is the Oracle…well we all know the Oracle. So all you kids who have just found AFM, dont worry…have some curry and in due course of time your will be adequately brain damaged by the Oracle to care about such things.

come on u guys….give a break to the LCA program. I guess these comments are too premature to make. How can u guys say anything not knowing what LCA is going to offer???? PV2 wud fly whenever it has to. let that bird fly first. U guys statements look like u r comparing the TDs or PV1 to a fully operational fighter (Grippen in this case). all that the prez (from that article) was trying to convey was that the fighter program has to match the current western fighters, be it tech wise or cost wise. How did u guys assume that its not upto the standard????I dont think u can make out anything out of that article..i again wud propose to wait for PV2 to fly and would make comparision statements when it completes the IOC. IAF has certain requirements in mind and ADA and co are in the process of implementing them. its a user defined fighter remember. Why shud it be compared with EF2000 or rafales etc??? completly diff roles right. is it fair?? ask urself..
Seeing the way things are progressing, only boeing is serious abt MRCA deal. why cannot be it this way. India is keen to become to UNSC member..so to placate the bigwigs and to gain political favours..so..

Mirage deal may not come through
NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force’s move to buy second-hand Mirage-2000-5 planes from Qatar has hit a roadblock. Officials say they are put off by the high price. The Government is also in a dilemma as the company that manufactures them is in the race for an IAF tender for 126 fighter planes.
Qatar’s quote for the dozen Mirage-2000-5 planes is “too costly for second-hand planes that have been lying in the hanger for about three years,” said a senior defence official.
There is also an ethical dimension to the problem. The French company manufacturing the plane is among the four companies approached by India for participation in the tender for 126 multi-role planes. The purchase of the second-hand planes, therefore, may cast a shadow over the fairness of the selection process for the 126 fighters, officials feel. India has 60 Mirage planes in its inventory and the lot from Qatar would have been sent back to France for modernisation before being inducted into the IAF.
Submarine deal
The same logic so far has stopped the Government from considering a German company’s plea to be considered for a submarine-building tender. The Navy, which already has four German submarines, could not accede to the plea as the company is facing bribery charges. The German firm appealed to the Government to reconsider its offer after the Delhi High Court cleared it of the bribery charges. It offered to consider providing second-hand submarines to the Navy to make up for the decline in the submarine force level while its offer was being reconsidered.
A French company is the only contender so far. Apart from reviewing an escalation clause, the deal is all but finalised. The Government would not want to consider the German firm’s feeler because it would cast doubts on the fairness of the selection process. “How can we apply different standards for the Navy and the Air Force? There is no problem if there is uniformity. Let both take place simultaneously,” said the official.
Boeing technology
Boeing became the second U.S. company to initiate the campaign for the IAF order. While the company ruled out a full-fledged production line, it said it would actively consider technology transfer to Indian companies.
It has offered “Super Hornets” from the F/A-18 family of strike fighters. But officials say the possibility of a sale depended on the U.S. Government’s permission. The choice of aircraft sub-systems to be transferred to India for local production to meet New Delhi’s condition that one-third of the cost of the project must be of Indian origin will also depend on the U.S. Government’s decision.
Officials of Lockheed Martin, its rival, have already visited India and offered an Indian production line for its F-16 aircraft.
