A:
2. ASRAAM is predominant over AIM-9M in speed (3.5 Mach vs 2.5 Mach), effective range (25 km vs 8 km), G-loading (50G vs 35G) and seeker’s view angle (+/-90 degrees vs +/-30 degrees). However, the stealthy capability of F-22A may be good enough to eliminate this advantages ~ As you said, if F-22A can approach its target close enough (such as 5 NM / 9 km) without being found, then the advantages of ASRAAM mentioned above may be useless until it gets the assistance from PIRATE and HMD.
Advanatage of Asraam are in very close range otherwise where else u need that 90 degree offborsight. Certainly not at target that is 9 to 10km away where u can easily point ur nose.
It seems EF dont have any missile approach warning or ESM.
India would have to select a Western Type (4.5 Generation) fighter for the MMRCA. Before the US would even consider letting India have access to the F-35………..India is just mixing and matching! Personally, I see India purchasing both Russian and Western Equipment for some time. As she has little choice…..she can’t afford purely Western Equipment and she can’t live with purely Russian.
MKI will be top fighter for IAF untill 2020. than PAK-FA derivative will take over. The rest of fighter fleet is from 80s era and will perish with time.
Any other fighter joining in mean time is on border line of wishfull thinking.
Well, India has more money that’s why she is expanding her options. But, not enough to for go Russia completely………..Like I said going purely Russian will not give India the level of superiority to counter China. As China is improving by the day……..
Russia is practically only Choice India has if it wants to compete with China.
Western equipments are very expensive and dont offer that joint projects in scale of Russians. Why do u think they dont signup for JSF if it is so good?.
Which western fighter allows Brahmos type weopon and range on internal fuel that can be refuelled for far away of Chinese border like Su-30MKI? This aircraft is in class of its own.
China has practically unlimited money so its development and quantity of purcahase will be faster than India.
Well, what’s your number! If, India wanted a Russia type for the MMRCA. It could have just purchased more Flankers or Fulcrums…………Obviously, India is considering other options than purely Russian Equipment.
India already increased Flanker order by 40. Integrating Brahmos into it. Both of these were not in original plane. Similar is case with RD-33 licenses. So if India wanted anything Western they would signup for it since 2001 on original MRCA was floated. Any thing of small order would have been fine. But now situation is hopeless for even M2K upgrade unless some cheap stuff is put inside it.
While, India hasn’t turned Russia away. She has moved closer to the West if you believe it or not. As Russia will not provide India with the needed superiority to counter China. Just that plain and simple……..So, don’t be surprised to see India continuing to move closer to the US and Europe as a whole. Personally, I have little doubt that India will select a Western Type for the forthcoming MMRCA. IMO:D
Call me when they signup for Western MMRCA. MMRCA will take very long time to materialze if it ever happens. IAF is going more into 5th Generation PAK-FA time line. So i dont think they are in hurry of any western type fighter
Point is they are continuing with MKI and MIG-29 upgrades(engine license already). they havent sign for M2K upgrade yet or any engine license from Western manufacturer. .
Why would Obama or any one else for that matter, need to spend any money selling old inventory? thats called earning money?!
And controling the people isnt part of the free world of thinking 😀
Forget about the russia, the old bear is about to turn ulgy 😀
Old aircraft does not fly by themselves. u have to train people.deliver weopons, spare parts to fly them. There is no such thing exist in UKraine for those aircraft and no one is going to invest in them.
Funny, it has been involved with the US and Europe in several Military Exercises in the last few years. Even going to the US for RED FLAG recently! Further, it has purchased Hawk Trainers from the UK and Cargo Planes (C-130J’s) and Anti Submarine Patrol Aircraft (P-8I’s) from the US. Seems like India is moving closer by the day………:D
I think ur mistaken. It is Russian AL-55 engine that will go into further Indian projects from intermediate to advance trainer. P-8 hasnt been signed. Exercises are just learning. No money is involved. In case of C-130. Antonov didnot have new product in that class. IL-76 is in different class. MTA has some way to go.
What Russia has delivered to India has made India bargaining position very strong with West.
Let’s not forget the Nuclear Deal between India and the US too!
India already has similar agreements with France and Russia. Unless u can show me actual reactors sale.
Ukraine doesn’t want to intergrate with Russia on any level and the West is far from Bankrupt…………So, look for Ukraine to move closer both Militarily and Economically to Europe and the US.
Ukraine unpopular President (4% apporval rating:D) has no choice left but to accept Russia. It is the end result of his Disasterous policies. It is the Russian market/money/energy/Military industrial that is running Ukraine. Ukraine corrupts politicians are just making statements to collect handouts from US. No one is going to donate advanced weopons to them.
http://www.businessukraine.com.ua/mega-merger-strengthens-iud
While Russian and Ukrainian politicians are still locked in various negotiations over gas transportation networks, private sector players from the two countries are finding increasing areas of agreement.
News broke recently that Russia’s Gazmetall and the Ukraine’s Industrial Union of Donbass (IUD) have concluded a landmark merger deal to create quite possibly the largest steel-making company in the CIS, with an annual output of around 20 million tonnes.
Well, time will tell…………If, Russia is so superior in quality and price. Why has India moved closer to Western Europe and the US of late???
I havent seen India moving closer to anyone either. Rather it is dangling this MRCA contract for past decade to get other favours. Indians arent stupid. they will continue to make this indecision on MRCA untill Boeing/EADS make all private investments ahead of time and than either go Russian way or give price to Western manufacturer which will be unacceptable.
The F-16’s would be cheap and would get Ukraine in the door so to speak! They would be followed by new Western Types as resources became available…………:D
MIG-29 is even cheaper as it is already there and they have factory and know how to modernize them. Neither Ukraine has the money nor West is willing to invest in them. So no chance of Western types in UKraine. Russians with alot of money can literally buy that new Western fighter from UKraine. UKraine cannot control its own people. And i highly doubt Obama if elected is going to spend Tax payer money in UKraine. Only GW Bush can make bankrupt decision. Forget about Western EU.:D

Bad Credit
The state, sandwiched between Russia and the European Union, has the worst creditworthiness of Europe’s emerging markets, based on the cost of credit-default swaps, which protect bondholders against default
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/recession/3260054/Ukraine-suffers-from-the-economic-crisis-along-with-the-rest-of-Eastern-Europe.html
The head of Ukraine’s central bank was forced to plead with the country’s politicans to stop bickering. “It’s like slow death,” said Volodymyr Stelmakh. “The more we delay, the more problems will multiply.”
Ukraine’s pro-Moscow opposition has spent months warning that the government had steered disastrously away from Russia, a path that jeopardised its economy. Last week Serhyi Taruta, the country’s leading steel magnate, compounded its crisis by warning of mass lay-offs in the vital industry
UKraine will have little choice left except for fully integrating with Russian economic system. Bankrupt West cannot support it. Those days are gone.
I have no doubt the Indian Navy doesn’t have the problem with the increase. As the funds come from the Goverment…………That like a teenager having no problem with mom and dad paying the bill. Its a little different when you have to pay out of your own pocket!
Indian Government will also have problem with over expensive F-18E also. if IN feels it is worthy of the cost considering Russians are helping them in other areas of importance so ultimately finance ministry will fall in line.
Secondhand F-16’s would be the likely choice……….:D
Why would they want second hand fighters and all associated investment of maintianing them. UKraine Industrial enterprizes with many ethinic russians have long cooperative agreements with Russian. Which is not the case with Poland. So any Nato technology will likely fall into Russian hands.

Ukraine modernizing MIG-29 fighterThe 2007 State budget has appropriated 7.7 M. UAH (about 1.5 M. USD) to complete research works on the modernization of the MiG-29 fighter in 2007, Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko reported, “Cabinet press office” informed.
According to the Minister, the key factory involved in the MiG-29 modernization is the State-run defense factory “Lviv Aircraft Repair Factory”. In Hrytsenko’s opinion, a cooperative potential of Ukrainian plants should be entirely used in the process of the MiG-29 improvement, as well as the technological innovations obtained when modernizing foreign customers’ aircrafts.
As Air Forces Commander colonel-general Anatoliy Toropchyn noted, the MiG-29 modernization enables to extend its service life up to 35-40 years from the time they had been produced, and up to 20 years of durability for engines.
If, 1.2 Billion is no big deal. I would think India would be happy to pay it….
Read ur own news report again. It is fight between finance and defence ministry of India. Its is the Navy that is incharge for procurement.
It has nothing to do Russian shipyard
I think it is the smallest among diesle subs with AIP.
LE- LE BOURGET, on October 31. ([Korr].[ARMS]- TASS). The specialists of the central design bureau of sea technology ([TSKB] Mt.) “ruby” and Italian company “[Finkanteri]” completed the development of the conceptual design of the [neatomnoy] submarine Of s1000 for the third country.
Project passed the stage of critical examination and on the made observations in it the corresponding modifications were introduced. The mock-up of boat is represented on 21- m the international Naval salon “Of [evronaval] 2008” in the exposure of company “[Finkanteri]”.
As reported [korr].[ARMS]- TASS the business manager “Of [finkanteri]” Enrico Bonatti, is at the present time determined architecture [NAPL], the arrangement of equipment is executed, the configuration of the combat integrated system was determined. Marketing of boat on the World Market is conducted and taking into account its [konyunktury] are determined basic tactical-technical elements and main measurements Of s1000: the length of 56,2 m, the outside diameter of durable housing 5,5 m, submerged displacement of approximately 1100 tons, maximum submersion depth are more than 250 m, the maximum speed of motion in the underwater position is more than 14 units.
Joint project on the development by small [NAPL] was begun “[Finkanteri]” and [TSKB] Mt. “ruby” in 2004. [NAPL] of the project Of s1000 is intended for conducting of antisubmarine fight, fulfilling of reconnaissance missions, and also support of the forces of special operations and transport of underwater saboteurs. These tasks boat can accomplish both in the shallow coastal zones and in the deep sea water areas. Tasks of secondary importance include fight against the surface ships, setting of minefield barriers and support of the actions of aviation at sea.
The crew of boat – 16 man, besides whom aboard can be found 6 additional soldiers from the composition of forces of special operations.
Power plant includes two diesel generators, storage battery, propulsion motors and air-independent power units with the electrochemical generator.
According to the statement of representative “[Finkanteri]”, the boat Of s1000 is not intended for Navy of Russia and Italy, but it is proposed only to third country. In the case of obtaining the order, the period of the development of technical documentation and building of head boat on the Italian shipyards will be 48 months.
On its board will be established both Russian and Italian equipment in the relationship 50:50.
I doubt the Russian Navy would want it. They already have a larger more capable Carrier. Further, if Russia can be trusted? They have “new” carriers in the works. Really, if India did refuse the ex-Gorshkov. She would likely try to sell it to a third party like China. Which, would give the PLAN Carrier Program a much needed jump start. Of course that would depend if they are willing to pay the high price. Regardless, India has little choice and will likely just fight with Russia as long as possible trying to get a bette deal. Just comes down to how far is Russia willing to push India to get more money for the project???
Ur own link says that last payment was received in January 2007. So who is financing for past two years. Ship will come from the dock in december. It is just reality that work was underestimated and there was huge increase in prices beyond any one expectations. I doubt it will be sold to China. Russian Navy needs larges multipurpose shipst. Just as Helicopter/Anti air this Gorshkov has alot of value not mention second platform for training Russian and other countries pilots for Naval aviation. $1.2b for Gorshkov extra is not big deal if it is spread for 5 to 8 years.
