Why look, a Peruvian R-77…
The brazilian magazine didnt explaine why but it only said that peruvians affirmed that their Adder are unable to use .Maybe it was because the missile was made on workmanship style since Peru ordered 100 Adders which ( as the manufacuters said ) was such a small quantity that they would make those misssiles by hand!!!  . Or the peruvians didnt conservate it welll… or theyre lying .
So what.. Fu*ck the US military *assistance*.. We never asked for it..
Yep . Fortunetly like many military analists said Brazil wont miss it as it was too small .

I am so glad for all those African countries geting oil, Like Chad, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea(who has a 20% growth/year) and now ANgola, I hope they spend it on their people and less on defence.
Me too but … wait 20% of growth per year??????????? Is that from a reliable source? Or the country is really small ( sorry Im really ignorant when it comes to african countries ) 😮
The FAP has the Super 530D on thier Mirage 2000EP/DPs and the R-27R on thier MiG-29S/SEs.
Maybe Ive mistaken the letter but it is on the brazilian magazine “Força Aérea ” that Peru said that thier Adders were unable to use
The Su-35 offers no GPS guided bomb
Ive heard they are developing JDAMS equivalents . Even Brazil has this plans according to brazilian newspaper “Estadão”

Hi Everyone,
who got more info’s about the usage of those fighters ? Will they be used in the same way as the old F-5’s or are additional capabilities requested ?
If not, my personal favorite would be Gripen.
But it is a **** bad time to buy them. All major upgrades will be fieldet in the next 3-6 years. After those upgrades it will be even capable to take on the Flanker. But if you buy them now: to much “old” US-equipment inside. For those smuggler-kicking thing Brasil has enough Tucanos for that proposal. And as I see it: The FAB operates with the AMX the most modern mudmover in South America.
It is the classical situation: fewer heavy fighters or more light fighters to cover the same area…The Flanker has simply no enemy that would justify it.
The M2k has a bright future, too. UAE bought them, and Dassault will need to keep it modern as the Rafale seems to be to similar to Typhoon. They got their link to Embraer. Lobbying has ever been very important. They got the best cards. That is why I would bed on M2K as winner.
HI Aurel , we want multirole fighter but whose strongest point be the air superiority . And I agree we have no external threat now that justifies te Su35 but we must think in the future since we want ot be a permanent UN Security Council Member . IM not saying that the Su35 should win since I dont beleive Avibras would be able to incorporate its technology nor that we would be able to operate it in the middle of the Amazon but Im saying that Im about to prefer the Su35 to the Gripen , but Mirrage may be the best of all.
Sorry guys , but I’m betting on the JAS-39C, everything that Brazil wants is being offered to them by Saab so it really make sence.
The same goes for Dassault and Sukhoi .
The only thing that the US or Russia can offer in order to save their deals is assistance in the fledgling space program
Ive heard Russia is willing to if we buy the Su35
GE has a subsidiary company in Brazil which is called Celma, so once the Volvo RM-12 is basec in a General Electric’s power plant (F-114-400?) this would an advantage.
OK but if americans want to retaliate us they could make the Celma ( which now is already subordinated to the GE ) to halt its production . And FAB is negotiating with VOLVO , etc because the CELMa has deneid FABs request to produce certain motor’s parts
Why do we need technology to build supersonic fighters if we’ll never have enough money to develop one on our own
Why do you sau never? Future is uncertain and yousaid that as future is uncertain we should need to use our fighters in Amazon thus we should drop the Su35 . If we gonna follow your argument we should stop all of our indigenous weapons programs . Things are made step by step .
LANTIRN, That just means they found 8 sets of them sitting around in a box somewhere.

Because Brazil didn´t want to celebrate a bilateral treaty with the US which would provide that Brazil would be forbidden to extradite any US citizen accused of perpetrating war crimes to the ICC (International Criminal Court). This way, all US citizens in Brazil, mainly military personnel, would not need fear to be eventually subjected to a trial by this court, since Brazil would not send them to the Hague.
Brazil has this obligation to extradite individuals when required by the ICC due to the Rome Protocol, which it has ratified and must observe, since it has already entered into force.
Sorry for the legal vocabulary, but it is necessary to explain such things.
Tks you did much better than me . Thats the reason why US cut the miitary aid for us .
Well, Peru has the MiG-29/R-77, and Chile has the Derby AAM,
Peru said that their R77 are unusuable and about chilean’s Derbys , its only suspiccions so we can say that it seems there are no BVR weaposn at south america till now
As I know, the FAB is using RS-99A equipped with Erieye-radar. Therefore the Gripen will fit perfectly. Only problem I see is the climate. Gripen is underpowered, the hot climate would reduce power even more. It uses an AMERICAN engine, nearly 30% of the Aircraft is American. This is o.k. for defending Sweden but for exports…. Shurely the Gripen is most cost effektiv, but what weapons will be used ? The Swedish are pushing Meteor and european weapons. At the moment they use AMERICAN Sidewinders and AMRAAM’s. The only option would be the South African weapons… Situation awareness is the magic word of our days together with stealth. Gripen has the lowest RCS, Datalinks are an Swedish idea. Gripen COULD have a bright future: HMS, NORA(pretty cool !) ,Meteor, Iris-T possible EJ-200/220/230 with TVC, CFT’s and so on. Fact is: Flanker and M2K have indegenious weapons, engines and electronics. They are more modern today, they have higher payload and range. The Flanker is the reference for any Western fighter. It is big, mean and has impressive firepower and radarrange. The Mirage has in my opinion the best E/W-suite. The question for me is what is Brasil looking for ? The expansive but impressive Monster Flanker, or the cost effective Gripen with it’s interesting future. Or the way between:The Mirage. Dassault and Sukhoi made the better offset offers.
Good point , Aurel . Thats the unique thing that makes me not ignore the Gripen . Since from all competitors , the Gripen seems to be the unique wchih has a promissing fll life of future upgraded finantiated by its manufacturer ( and oficcialy the sweadish already promissed future Gripen’s upgrade would be available for us )
IMHO the Gripen would be the second-worst option (F-16 would be the worst, because it´s a bad package). It is a fighter tailored for a small country like Sweden that simply doesn´t fulfill the needs of an air force from a country as large as Brazil. If the Sukhoi can´t be chosen because of logistics, Brazil would be better off choosing the M2K proposal, which is better than the Gripen´s. M2K has a bigger engine, can carry a bigger weapons load, and has more range. And Brazil knows and trusts Dassault/Embraer products.
But I prefer F6Fs opinion . IN a recent interview the Brazilian Air FOrce commander to a national weekly magazine said the purpose of this competition was to gove EMBRAER the knowledge on supersonic flights

Hi everybody,In my opinion, the Su-35 isn’t the best fighter which is being offered to Brazil. The Gripen is!!
Ok, some may say that it is too short-legged to operate in such a large country as Brazil, but I’d like to make a few comments about this:Most of the airfields in the Amazon jungle aren’t anything more than a few hundreds meters of mud. The Su-35 couldnt be used in these airfields once it is simply too heavy and could end stuck in the mud. Operating from air bases located too far away from the ToA it would spend a lot of time and lots of fuel making its way to the place where it could be required. This way it also would have a higher time of reaction. The Su-35 also would have a lot problems operating off its home once it doesn’t an APU. Another point against the Sukhoi is that it is a lot expensive to operate and for an Air Force without much money that’s make a big difference.
Regards,
Primer
I agree with you , if we choose the Su35 it would be a hell in earth to peorate it in the Amazon . BUt I prefer the Moragge 2000Br to Gripen since we woulld be able to modify it and would have full access to its technology as EMBRAER promisses . AS well as the good Mica R and IR versions .
Why did the US end military aid to Brazil?
Because we voted for the International Court Justice ( of something like this )

Malandro,I just checked the forum where you took your info from; the original post was written in September of 2002! So it´s pretty old news, and not even the people there seem to believe this offer is on the table anymore (if it ever was, looks like it was something done just to convince the military that supporting the now-elected brazilian president was not a good deal, and that they would have more to gain supporting the other candidate).
And I don´t believe the US is afraid of anybody these days. A few Mirages or nuclear subs won´t alter the equation.
You may be right but as I read it more than once…. And about the euqtion surely US would still be the most powerful but I was mentioning about the LA parity in military stuff . Anyway here is the english forun which says the same thing . http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/thread?forumid=243030&messageid=1047582648&lp=1068173762 ( read the message at 24 of spetember 2003 2:45AM from Panz5a )
Note that all free material I said was used ones not news . And I did a mistake . AMRAAMS would be sold , not given .

And they dislike the idea of a LA country being able to product an advanced fighter like the Mirrage 2000-9 with Micas ( R and IR )Well I found that strange too ( the F16E) but saw it on a brazilian magazine ( maybe they mistyped it) …

I guessed so. Why would any nation give all the above mentioned weapons for free?
And we´re not talking about 120 airplanes, but only twelve (even though there´s a possibility that more airplanes will be purchased in the future…)
Sorry but I don´t buy it! 😀

I’ve also read something similar to that in the internet, but that’s hardly true, specially now that the US government has announced the end of the military aid program with Brazil. And by the way, the F-16 version which is being offered is the Block 50/52+, not the F-16E (whatever this is).
Well I found that strange too ( the F16E) but saw it on a brazilan magazine …
