3/10/62, behind the Sandhurst Garage: Skylines (Aircraft Components) Ltd. Spares supplier to the Boscombe (then) trio. EZ259 became G-BMJW; FX442 to Hawkinge Museum, 2002; KF435 to Booker as spares; KF487 to DX as spares. 3 Meteors were there too (T.7/F.8/F.R.9).
I recall seeing the Harvards at Sandhurst in my spotter days and wondering why they hadn’t been scrapped, but, at that time, I wasn’t aware of the Boscombe Down’s Harvards existence and there weren’t any others in the U.K. at the time.
A chap in Kidlington had another Harvard project in the late ’60’s. I wonder if that project was ever finished?
Yes, the Yarlswood Immigration Centre is still there, albeit adjacent to the wind tunnel site rather than the main airfield. In fact it’s nearer to Twinwoods Farm former airfield, where Glen Miller made his fateful flight from.
No, Bradshawing was identifying where you were by the railway stations you passed over, while following the railway line feature. I believe most stations had their names painted on their roofs to help pilots. This gave a definite fix of where you were, as to where you thought you were…:)
With that point, it’s almost like an arrow…active…
Or fly to the right of the line feature…:D
I’m sure these have been seen before. Sorry about the quality too!
Portersfield?
I have a couple of pics of it at Cranfield, but you will have to wait until they surface!
There were a similar collection of Sea Furies at Langley in 1959/1960. I wonder if these were the same ones that had been moved to Dunsfold?
Couple more shots from Chino
DH.82A tail supported by one Alan Brett…
Planes of Fame again
Spanish tail now. Well it was in the Museo del Aire at Cuatros Vientos, Madrid.
Oh yes, and see through gliders too…
Well, I did take it in the ’80’s I think…
Me-109, don’t forget to check out the DC-3 Mosquito Bombers at Marathon on the way down. Sugarloaf Key’s strip is worth a look in too. I found a really nice Beech 18 there on one of my visits. There used to be one or two WACO UPF-7’s joy riding at Key West. I flew a WACO YMF-5 from Marathon, but I think that’s long gone now. If you haven’t already done it, take the Caravan amphib from Key West to the Dry Tortugas.
