you beat me to it heres the pics
Funny you should say the paint was to original spec its almost the same shade of green that airfix quote as the correct green in some of their raf kits and that is well known to be the wrong green.
So our green is ALMOST the same shade of green as Airfix which is wrong, so our green is different then. As I have got all the Avro drawings to paint the Lanc with all the colour codes on them for the Dark Green ,Dark Earth and Night maybe you could shed some light on where I am going wrong.
Not a hundred mission aircraft this time, but she will only wear these codes until the major servicing.
So a new identity is on the cards, just hope they get rid of that awful green paint they used for the camoflage. To me she look almost spot on when she was coded SR-D.The almost matt finish she had really set her off.
You mean the green paint that was ordered by the correct spec taken from original drawings ? She will be out of paint at the end of the week for displays at the weekend in her new markings 🙂

Not quite true only Majors and engine overhauls are carried out under contract. We carry out the annual and minor servicings on all our aircraft. I was really looking forward to be working on RR299 but sadly it wasn’t to be.

Back to the original thread of the BBMF sixth Spitfire it is worth remembering that the build/rebuild? of the wings for this aircraft was paid for by The Lincolnshire Lancaster Association (LLA)
.
Sorry but that statment is wrong LLA have put in about 100k over the last ten years to the project paying for the refurb of frame 5, the fin unit, engine bearer and 30k of the total for the installation of mod 502 to the wings, wing fuel tanks. Without their help TE would not be as she is today
David I agree you but when you cannot say anything thats when the rumours/ questions start. Both aircraft did start as spares recovery, two overhauled engines, two sets of flying controls ie flaps, rudders, ailerons and a elevator plus reconditioned u/c pintles all completed before TE’s recovery was even thought about . My problem is that if people want to talk about TB382 start a thread about it.
Why does every thread about TE311 go on to mention TB382. It is getting very tedious and quite frankly I am getting fed up of one or two members comments. Here are the facts
1. TE and TB came to BBMF in 1999 for spares recovery after a proposed auction was stopped
2. 2000/01 Both a/c were surveyed and TE was chosen by ME as the most likely to be considered as a project by BBMF this was based on condition
3. 2001 work started on TE
4. TB was then struck off charge and used/ swapped call it what you like to pay for the wing restoration for TE.
Mark 12 has said many times on here that TB will by restored and will fly again. It is now down to the owner of TB if he/they want to let any info out on their project is it not!!!!!
Rant over.
It is not that bad but yes areas will be treated rather than replaced
It is a Mk XXI and she is the ex 1 Sqn mascot. The a/c has been paint stripped to carry out a survey and some minor repairs then she will be reassembled and repainted correctly. She will remain at BBMF untill 1 Sqn reforms.
This is the next project ::)
