Yes they really were going to bring her over last year and she was going to based at Coningsby from end of May to July 6 to 8 weeks in total but it all fell through at the last minute, but as Peter says it will never happen now, but one can hope.

Where does the info that BBMF will not fly with anyone come from!!!. Since I have been on the flight there has been several occasions when we have flown with others

    1) The five ship over North Weald with 2 Bf109’s on one side of the Lanc and PZ & PM on the other.
    2) Spit formation over the Solent
    3) AB & Black 6 at Fairford
    4) Mustang with Lanc for film work
    5) Any calender that our a/c appear on. John Dibbs etc…

All one has to do is ask and meet for a face to face briefing, the biggest disapiontment for me was when the CWH Lanc cancelled because she was going to be based at Coningsby and fly at several events with PA474.

Lastly we have 3 Lanc crews

    Yak 139

Thanks for clearing that one up. However, yes I know insurance premiums are expensive, but surely any operator with rare a/c must realise they are taking a risk by insuring the a/c at the bare minimum ie third party. It only takes one accident and you could lose everything. Surely if you have the money to own the a/c you should have the money to insure it.

Anyway I hear she should be flying again in 3yrs time if all goes well and I wish them well with the rebuild

YAK139 Whats the point of insurance if your not covered when the a/c is flying !!! Of course she is insured they would be stupid to operate her without it. I wish her a speedy recovery and may we see back in air where she belongs.

Black 6 was rebuilt with insurance money after she had her minor accident so I think I know about this subject

Eddie we don’t clean PA474 that much, usually at the start of the display season and at the end prior to winter servicing so hopefully keeping all the exhaust staining that you like to see.
Lancman I’ll see what I can do about the new markings in 3yrs time as it is down to the flight these days with sqn codes & colour schemes. I picked AB910’s new scheme.

    Hendon Lanc

Just to let you know yes BBMF did borrow the ammo tracking from the Lanc most of which was lying on the tailplane centre section, while we were there a note was taken of all the other bits and pieces that had been taken by BBMF in the past . When the new ammo tracking had been manufactured, using the original as pattern, and fitted into PA474. The originals were fitted along with the other items back into S for Sugar. She is fairly complete inside we even found some ‘window’ strips in the nose section, however she suffers from quite bad corrosion in areas and from not being assembled correctly transport joints only having half the bolts fitted and an elevator fitted with eye bolts that you would normally see tightening a chain link fence these are just two of many examples

    Eyebrook Res

Hopefully this will help although knowing my luck the Nav will change it. The Lanc will come over Rutland water and exit at the western end leading it into the res from the north east ,it will then straighten, to go over the dam. The lanc will be then followed the Spit & Hurri and then they should do a further 3 passes

    For information, re; magneto checks.

However tragic this accident may be, it has to be brought to people’s attention that civilian operators do not overhaul their magnetos at set periods, they are, what we call, ‘fitted on condition’.

That means that it is up to the individual operator to determine whether and when they should have their magnetos overhauled or not.

Sadly to say, magnetos are not the only items that are treated in this way.

It’s about time the CAA laid down some specific rules and regulations to do with ‘lifing’ of these items and regulate who is allowed to overhaul them.
