If you want some details of the next couple of weeks, I will check tomorrow and post them for you on here tomorrow night.

As one of ‘Day’s team’, as you call it, and someone who listens to him personally on a daily basis, not reading copies of after dinner speeches, and someone who has worked with the aircraft for the last 9 years, I think I know whether the Dak is a help or a hindrance to the Flight.
As for the naming of BBMF, shall we then get rid of all the aircraft and be left with just the MK IIa as she was the only one who took part in the Battle of Britain.
OR, should we call it the ‘D-Day Flight’ for the MK5 and the MK9 Spits, OR should we call it the ‘We almost didn’t make it to the war flight’ for the Lanc, MK19 Spits and PZ865 Hurricane.
In conclusion, those who support and understand the role of the Flight do not quibble with the name, and those veterans who visit on a daily basis appreciate the Flight and its purpose, which is reflected in our motto, ‘Lest We Forget’.

BBMF Dakota
Well, Lancman.
Just a couple of points here. First of all, are you aware that the Dakota was a replacement for the Devon and she is used like the Devon was, (although she was not a ‘tail-dragger) as a training aircraft for aircrew to progress to the Lancaster and also to keep current with air time during the months that the Lancaster does not fly? (i.e. during winter servicing)
For the first few years on the Flight the Dak was used solely for training purposes, and the odd display, however over the last 5/6 years she displays as much, if not more than the Lancaster, this is due to the large number of requests that there are for her.
May I remind you that the Dak played a great part in WWII, in many significant operations, for example Operation Manna and D-Day.
The Flight consider the Dak a ‘workhorse’, and are happy with that, ferrying spares, aircrew around the country as well as the roles already mentioned, she is a Godsend at times.
As for the naming, Battle of Britain, all these ‘type’ of aircraft have taken part in WWII, nobody has ever claimed that the aircraft are all actual veterans, however, the flight is a flying memorial to all those aircraft and aircrew both living and passed. Britain was at war for 6 years, therefore the Battle of Britain took place over 6 years, with a significant period during 1940 that was dubbed the ‘Battle of Britain’. The Dakota, as already stated, played a large part in defeating Britain’s enemies at that time, she therefore has a legitimate place on the flight as does any aircraft type (eg the Mosquito) that saw action in WWII.
Fluffy.
BBMF news
As the mechanic working on the spitfire project was prominently involved in restoring Black 6 to flying spec, and subsequently to static condition, it would not be unreasonable to believe him capable of restoring a Spitfire to flying condition.
However, the Spitfire referred to in the previous message is classified as being a spares recovery project.
By the way, Pimpernel, just to set you right, it’s Figaro the cat, but Felix was a pretty close.
And yes, g6hyf, it was a two-seater you spotted on 20.02.03.
