Good idea Colin. My father served in the RAF from 1940 to 1945, but was one of the lucky ones and lived well into his nineties. I hope your new thread will provide a basis for reviving memories of 1940, as well as reviving this Forum.

Very funny Colin. I like it. But to be serious (as usual, and to wind my post count up to 2000): yes AA it seems to be back since a couple of weeks ago. Happy New Year all.

I agree with Jeepman, and I’ve said it before: surely it’s not too hard to give us back an edit function. Or to number posts, or to be able to open links within a post. Come on someone: answer our questions.
Happy Christmas all.

I still stick around as occasionally something crops up from a friend or I find something old to look at, but there’s nothing dynamic and our treasure trove of aviation knowledge has dwindeled to almost nothing. Few of our requests to undo the harm that has been done have been heeded. We don’t even seem to get acknowledgements that something WILL be done. Yes, indeed, they seem to have given up on us. A great, great pity.

1. jamesm: I refer back to my post of 9 December (I tried to copy it but can’t). I was bemoaning the fact that links in posts seem to just send you back to the start of a thread instead to the new url. Still hasn’t changed.
2. So, in view of not being able to copy, how can I cite a message or part of one?
Thanks
Laurence
jamesm: It’s indeed good to be able to find one’s old posts. However, it seems that the links in those old posts no longer work. Can that be fixed?
Also, can there be an indication when there are new posts in a given thread? Thanks.
Laurence
Thanks longshot. I suppose the waving hand confirms a departure . . .
Laurence
Still can’t edit so: I should have said the picture above is Pakistani Super Constellation AP-AFQ leaving for (? coming from) Karachi, July 1959.

This is one that got lost from my original posts
Laurence

That’s a big step forward. Thanks.

As we get into the realms of reminiscence, I have a lump in my throat as I am in the process of sorting out all my magazines, from the 1950s on, for recycling. I can’t even give them away.
Laurence
Someone official seems to have thought that the spotters’ lists of numbers could be of interest, in a bad sense. I recall that in the famous Ian Allan books there was a warning paragraph that said something like: Don’t forget that lists of aircraft serials could be of value to the enemy, so national security is more important than fulfilling your collector’s urge. Not an exact quote as I can’t get at my books at the moment.
Laurence
This was missing from your photo AA (an earlier version at least, 1952).
(Oo, it’s a bit big)

Oh very nice! Couldn’t have been me, Equipment far too sophisticated. And I would have been on the old North Side at London Airport, as was.

I did a test PM to jamesm and it seems to have worked, but how do I read one from him to me?
While he’s watching, may I say that I was just replying to a post on another thread and had written half my answere when I went to the previous page to check the date and found that this deleted my new post. Not convenient. And not having post numbers makes it hard to reference them.
