I know it is not an answer to your request, but I thought you might be interested to know that I saw EM700, together with EM503 and MS781 in July 1952 at Martlesham Heath. Would they all have been with 2 AACU on detachment to MH?
Laurence
Yes indeed, as I said a few posts above. I flew in one some years ago.
Laurence
It also confirms that it was a 2-32

3 seat glider
There are 3 seat gliders. A fairly common one in the USA is the Schweizer 2-32. I tried one once. A bit tight with 3 aboard. I do not know whether this was the one involved here, but quite possibly.

Sad news
I only just saw this sad news. I was negotiating with Tony Corr for one of the first plots in his AirParc (although we did not take it any further) and even translated the website into French for him. So I was shocked to read this thread. Condolences to his family.
Laurence
That’s good news. I used to see it as we taxied past, but I shall look out for it next Friday when I fly into LTN

Between 1979 and 1992 during transits at FRA I noted the following inside the terminal or on the terrace.
If I have got any of the identities wrong please let me know!

Luton Britannia
Britannia G-AOVS is still earning its keep with the Fire Section at Luton after some 20+ years. A few years back now I removed the very few remaining useful parts from the cockpit and were passed on to G-ANCF to replace parts it was missing (pilots seat being the most obvious one).
Jon
I thought the Britannia had gone, to be replaced by one of those green monsters. I haven’t seen its fuselage at Luton in the last year or two.

Texas Anson?
Bruce, if you are still interested after 5 years, I know of one of the flypast annies on a runway in Texas. Poor state, but is possibly up for sale.
Porterlaurie
Can you give me some details about this Anson in Texas? I am looking for one to acquire.

Thanks for the Valentias, DesertBlooms.
This one was given to me by Tony Tubbenhauer, who flew with the Habbaniya Communications Flight in early 1942, while on his way to fly Blenheims with 244 Sqd at Sharjah. It is K3599, the first of 28 Valentias, and it was one of the RAF’s last survivors of the type. His logbook shows another Valentia at Habbaniya, in which he flew to Heliopolis, Cairo. He entered it only as “8063”, so I assume this was an ex-Victoria conversion, J8063 (like K3165 you mentioned).

Good to see the Al Ain show is going from strength to strength. I was at the 2004 version, quite modest by 2010 standards, when I was working over there.
Laurence
Just Googled G-AESV. Not much new information, except:
AESV-Suisse , Association d´Etude sur les Soucoupes Volantes
(Swiss Association for the Study of Flying Saucers).

Anybody know where the Phoenix was/is? It might be nearer me than Avion!
I have an anorak!
Laurence
No there was no cockpit indicator as to how many were left. I think we unclipped the magazine during the preflight so we knew what was there. I seem to recall it hinged downward. As bazv said, we might well need some groundcrew to help!
Laurence
In the Chipmunk, I recall that we had to wait a certain time before firing a second cartridge if the first one did not work, which was not rare. Sometimes we had to reload the cartridge magazine, but I think we had to call for professional help for that!
