Wymeswold
John Aeroclub: As you asked, I shall put my Wymeswold pictures on a site called “Wymeswold 1955”
Laurence
Morning John. Re Wymeswold, I have other photos, but not of the Olympia.
9697 170/31M “GC-697” RCAF
G-ANTD Dakota IV
G-AMJP Dart Kitten
G-AIUL Dragon Rapide
RAF Sabre
Chipmunk WK471 NUAS

If you are interested I could put them on another thread so as not to get too far from gliders!

Did you ever get the turret cupola from Fenland?

Stamford eh? Not so far from Wymeswold. Can you throw any light on my mystery Olympia, post 43 above?

Wymeswold 1955
The EoN factory was a hive of activity in 1961. I was lucky to be able to visit.
I had helped start an enthusiasts’ group at Oxford, and we opted for a visit to the Newbury outfit. Thread drift, but on that day I also saw:
G-APEW EoN 403 Dark blue “90”
EoN/4/007 EoN 419 Dark blue. Peter Scott’s. (G-APSX)
EoN/4/009 EoN 419 Rudder: EON/4/R010. (=BGA1051)
EoN/S/003 EoN 460 Partly built. (G-ARFU, BGA1177)
255 EoN Baby RAFGSA. Silver. Last Baby. EON/B/047 (48th fuselage)
KI Silver. Dismantled
A great day out!
The Wymeswold thing was a display of some sort on 30 May 1955. Can’t remember the precise occasion, but there were some items of interest (apart from the Olympia):
9697 170/31M “GC-697” RCAF
G-ANTD Dakota IV
G-AMJP Dart Kitten
G-AIUL Dragon Rapide
I got their photos too!

Morning Fournier. I have turned the Oly round in my original posting.
As I said, I took the picture at a display at Wymeswold in May 1955.
Can anyone identify it?
In February 1961 I visited the EoN factory and the folowing Olympia 2s were there:
EoN/O/107 It was red, and had the wings of EON/O/96 (G-ALNF).
EoN/O/149 Red fuselage, grey wings
Laurence
oops
Thanks Fournier. When I took a contact print in 1955 (which I still have) I printed it the other way round. When I scanned the neg this week I got it wrong. It is one of those old giant 120 negatives, so I could only scan the close-up bit. Not bad framing though ….
I shall change the way round tomorrow.
Do you know what is written on the nose in the flashing line? Any idea of identity?
Laurence
Oly at Wymeswold 1955
Interesting thread. I took this Oly at a display at Wymeswold in May 1955. I did not record its identity, nor can I see any registration on the negative which I just scanned. I am not even sure I have the print the right way round! Can anyone identify it?

DaveF68:
I just checked the list of Me262s that you gave us. Useful data.
But re the Hendon example, 112372: its former RAF marks are not given. I saw it in March 1961 at Bicester’s Exhibition Flight, in their hangar waiting to be repainted. It still had its original Luftwaffe marks, on top of which I could just make out VK893, that it had used at Farnborough I think.
The marks had gone a month later (April 1961).
I just saw this link which gives a lot of detail:

FW 190 replica in Switzerland
There is still HB-YEL just down the road from me at La Côte ( LSGP) (NDB GLA).
My photo with it under wraps last summer, and a nice one with resident Bücker HB-UUL and visitor An2 (photo thanks to Jean Voegelin, Avianna Antonov Club).

Yes, thanks Edskarf. Was IBO written off in the collision? What was the final fate of GXY? I cannot find references.
In the museum at Sharjah is an Auster fin/rudder with the Autocrat type rudder, but it seems it was a piece acquired from Baginton, of unknown origin.
Laurence
Thanks both. Just what I wanted!
As I have mentioned several times in various fora and at
http://l.garey.googlepages.com/rafsharjah,almahattamuseum
there are 4 supposedly Gulf Aviation aircraft in the museum at Sharjah, ie G-AKVW, MZZ, JPR, NFE, but they are all in fact just painted as such. In reality:
KVW is ex TX183
MZZ is C-GCXE
JPR is G-ARDE
NFE is VH-NJP
So it is great to have your full list. Cheers
Laurence
Just found this rejuvenated thread.
Here is Belgian NF11 OO-ARO at Middelkerke, August 1959 (EN-18, ND-F, ex WD661)

and dying NF12 WS686 “E” at Northolt July 1959

Twin stick cockpit
This is the twin stick Anson C19 TX183 (G-BSMF, but falsely marked as G-AKVW) in the Al Mahatta Museum, Sharjah, UAE.

Spelling
If you Google with the correct spelling, it comes up, and with quite a bit of data on other Austrian groups.
