And we are still not informed when there is a reply to a post, like these to mine of yesterday. You have to log on, remember what you’re looking for and scroll through. Just not a serious option. I appeal again: Mr (or Mrs) Key: please reply to my post (unnumbered, of course – 5 above this one).
Laurence
Surely the time has come for someone with some official function at Key to explain what was behind this mess and what is being done, item by item. And not just “not to worry folks: important changes are about to be made”. It should not be left to the mods to do their dirty work. Surely we deserve at least that. Some of us have been around for a long time and have tried to make this a serious contribution to aviation history. Can we be taken seriously? Those few of us that are left, that is.
Sad and annoyed, Laurence
But why change it in the first place ??? Seriously, can someone answer that question?
Laurence
I just noticed: Blue_2’s Meteor restoration thread on UKAR attracted 1540 views and 16 replies in its first two days, plus all those great photos.
Laurence
As I’ve said before I, like some, will stick with Key for a while, as there are still some interesting posts cropping up. But with heavy heart, as so much has been lost, and finding one’s way around is so hard. But I have now found UKAR and see that there is some fantastic stuff there (including the Meteor!). I too note the empty promise syndrome. Kahleed seems to have gone to ground, as does one other entity who seemed to be speaking for Key recently. We are really being treated like the dregs. It would be nice to know why this unannounced hatchet job was undertaken in the first place.
Laurence
Thanks Peter. Will we get a search function too?
bazv: I do agree that UKAR is good. Especially as Blue-2’s Meteor thread is now there.
Laurence
As I’ve hinted before, I am grateful to you for sticking out here as long as you have. So I’m following you over to happier hunting grounds. Will those responsible for dismembering this forum ever learn? And indeed where are all these new improvements we have been promised so often?
See you on the other side.
Laurence
This Mig-21 5210 was outside a military surplus store in Pratteln in Switzerland in 2017. The only one I have seen in the last few years was a Mig-21U 0856 outside a similar surplus store near Sion airport. These stores often have bits of aeroplanes in them: there is a Vampire boom and tailplane not far from where I live

I’m really pleased that the tribulations of the last few weeks haven’t discouraged you from posting here. It’s as good as ever. The write-ups are as neat as the drilling.

Although not in the UK and not the prototype, one might mention the nose and cockpit of Mk 2R XK655 (the former first production Comet 2 G-AMXA) that is housed, and well looked after, in the Al Mahatta museum in Sharjah, UAE. It is the one that damaged its undercarriage landing at Strathallen and was finally scrapped, except the front end that was on the roof at Gatwick for ten years from 1995. Now in BOAC colours after a very nice restoration.

longshot: yes it really was 10 years ago since I started that thread! Clever of you to have found it again in spite of the difficulties the new thread format imposes to find anything. A shame about the fudged photos. I was especially pleased with the Pakistani Constellation and the lady waving good-bye.
Laurence
Thanks Bruce. I do hope so, but we seem to be having to wait rather longer for the “improvements” than we did for the massacre. I’m holding on in there for the moment, but what a sad waste so far.
Laurence
Thanks. And the other fixes?
Laurence
That’s good news. Now can we hope to have all the old threads reinstated? And all the old functions? Like can we have the thread back as it was before?
Laurence
Thanks Bruce. I hope you’re right. I am still remaining faithful, but there will be a limit.
