I am even more confused than usual. We were just getting used to Khalem and his promises to do better, and now we have information coming in from jamesm, member for some nearly 3 years with 74 posts, even if he can’t copy and paste important updates without screwing up. Who is he and who is our contact at Key?

Better admin? Are the admins still enabled then?

Be careful about the post above saying Please see update. It appears on several thread I have just looked at and doesn’t work anyway.
Laurence
It say Please see update, but it doesn’t work
Laurence
It looks as if we suddenly jumped from 1 November to 6 November. What happened to the posts in between? It says “see update”, but if you click that you get “10,000” irrelevant results. Oh dear.
Laurence
Search and you will find, but what you find will tend to be a paying subscription to Key for something you dont want. I have tried simply Googling the title of the thread I want: that sometimes works for a shortish thread, but it’s not what you can call a search function. That went out the window a month ago along with all the other missing functions.

Thank you Blue. You are living proof that you CAN survive Key’s attack on the site. Of course, it’s “their” site, but without us it would not be here. And you are proof of that pudding. Also, congratulations for overcoming the problem of embedding your pictures in the text. Wonderful stuff.

J Boyle: I guess I’m another of the old ones. My first show was at Upwood in September 1952. I think it was already called the Battle of Britain Display. In those days the field was scattered with Lincolns of 7 and 214 Squadrons, but there were a few other representative types from those still just post-war days. Other bombers included a Washington, a Mosquito and a very exciting early Canberra B2, while the fighters were a Meteor F4 and F8. The station flight showed off its Oxford. Three Tiger Moths, a Harvard, a Proctor, a Chipmunk, an Anson and a Varsity rounded it off. Notably, for a front-line bomber station, a few civil aircraft had been allowed in, a couple of Austers and a Gemini. Very quiet and sedate compared with modern shows, but exciting for an eleven-year-old.
Little did I realise then that a couple of years later, as an ATC cadet, I would be flying in those Lincolns and that lovely Oxford thanks to our wonderful liaison officer, F/L JB Stephens of 7 Squadron. Fantastic memories, and a red letter day in my fast growing passion for aviation.

Bob: Thanks for the link to the Key archive. Most useful.
Edited: PS. After trying several it looks as if threads are inaccessible. Maybe it’s just me but I fear the worst. Mothminor seems to find the same.

So this is the result of Key’s unannounced and unwanted vandalism. OK, it’s “their” thread, but it wouldn’t exist without its contributors and readers. Duxford Diary was (and still IS in its new site) one of the top contributions (along with several others, such was the wealth of the old Key thread). Now we can’t even find our way around it nor can we conveniently access valued old material. It’s a real shame, but I would echo several people in asking why you cannot simply reverse your decision and go back to the original format. I thought I would be able to count on replies to my various specific points I have made on several threads, but no, nothing except, “We’re working on it”. Sad.
Laurence
I wonder if there is any way to “see” the old forum as it was when it got chopped. Or has it gone for ever off into the aether? Any software experts who could comment?
Laurence
This is an obvious example of a thread that used to be full of photographic evidence of the utmost importance to us sincere historians. Where have all the pictures gone, to misquote Pete Seeger? And even the numbers of the posts?
Please do something.

GliderSpit said yesterday:
When you see the number of years that members have been here and the number of posts they made, it’s a real shame that there’s hardly any reply from Key to the feedback given here.
As I have said a couple of times already my years and posts count does not change. Is this a specific punishment for me or have others noticed the same thing? It’s not so important, compared with the other numerous complaints, but it’s just another sign of the decline of the site.
I see Khalem is back this morning, still saying he is “expecting an update soon”, but why is it taking so long? I hope not simply waiting for us to get used to the downturn.
Laurence
Khalem: so why isn’t the thread being reinstated? Where is it?
Laurence
More woes. Maybe it’s been pointed out already, but I only saw it just now: if you manage to find an old thread in which there were pictures in the body (not just links) there are no pictures any more.
