I have Martin Chorlton’s book. I agree, an excellent read. It was quite a surprise to me to discover more about the activities of Sage’s factory in Peterborough, past which I used to cycle, living not far from it. I think the last vestige, the factory tower, was preserved, and I believe “Sage’s Lane” is still so named.
PS: I found an image of the factory and water tower on http://www.peterboroughimages.co.uk/blog/?cat=191&paged=2 (9th image down)

Very nice film. I am lucky in living just off the approach to Geneva airport over the lake, and the Ju52s pass by on sight-seeing trips. The most recent were HB-HOS (sponsored by IWC) and HB-HOT. I can hear them coming from some distance and run out to see them: most impressive, especially with the background of the Mont Blanc and Alps.

One of the passengers seems to have a TWA bag, and photo 2 shows a Dove and, perhaps, a DC-3. Does that help, together with the “Hunting” steps?

I was at the RAFM last weekend. I asked the attendant whether they had yet received the Egyptian P-40. Yes said he, it’s over there, indicating THEIR P-40. Not that one, said I, the one from the desert. Oh you mean the one that crashed and the pilot walked away and was never found. Yes, said I. He then needed to speak to someone higher in the pecking order, and came back with the word that no-one knew anything else about what I was asking about … but he was very charming with it!

Fouga: see my post 29 above for a photo of an RAF Typhoon. I didn’t look in the cockpit, but as there was a ladder I assume it was equipped. It is used for mobile displays and is set on a trailer.

There is also Typhoon “IR206”, seen here at Earl’s Court in April 2006. Replica Harrier ZH139 was also at this exhibition.

So glad to hear that you are getting well enough to write this up.
Thanks for that very detailed and honest account. You did all the right things, it seems, and it paid off.
Reminds me of the day at Valley when I had an EFTO in the OUAS Chipmunk I was flying. 150 feet and sudden (almost) silence. Choice was sea, beach or the remaining runway. I chose the last and got away with it.
Turned out to be duff plugs.
    Get even better soon.

7FORTY7: I think that must be HP42 G-AAUE, Hadrian, impressed as AS982, and blown over in a gale at Doncaster on 6/12/40.
The other HP42s damaged by gales were G-AAUD Hanno and G-AAXC Heracles, blown together at Whitchurch on 19/3/40

I found the details, and another photo, of the Ju88A, above, at http://www.wingleader.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/lca2samplepagesa.pdf

4D+DR “48” of 7/KG30, from Aalborg to bomb Driffield, but shot down at Bridlington, 15 August 1940.

    You were right Andy.

Another shot of the same Ju88 from a local newspaper, being admired by the schoolboys!

    Looks like “48” and D+D

    That was quick, Andy.

I just came across this one. It is apparently a Ju88 that was displayed at King’s School in Peterborough in 1940, but I have no information on its identity. Maybe someone knows it.

Thanks Graeme. So it is a replica, as I expected. Quite a dramatic sight though!

Where in Google is that, Graeme? I couldn’t find that statement.

MH434 is a favourite of mine since I saw it at Middelkerke in 1959 as OO-ARA.

Thanks Graham. The Su-26 is at the airport hotel.
The Spitfire is on the roof of the Breitling HQ building near the train station. See:
