Thanks Snapper. I am in touch with Kev and Moggy. Amazing that this superb piece of investigation is still with us after 17 years. Just shows what the forum was capable of in its heyday.

And two years on from there it looks as if we are onto another link.

Scouse1: I have details of someone who wishes to contact you. I’ll send you his address by PM (assuming I can get PMs to work on this new system). Let me know if you get the message.

I have just realised that this is the same event that was discussed in some detail in a thread started in 2003 by former moderator MoggyC. It’s worth looking back at that:

I’m doing the survey, in good faith, but wonder if it’s just window dressing. I hope not.

More power to your elbow, trumper !!

jeepman: So it wasn’t reinstated; you produced a clone! So Sopwith’s comments are even more relevant. I echo dhfan’s feelings too.

Interesting. A bunch of posts dated today about the “gone” thread that went. I know several of my friends on here said I was wasting my time contacting the Key people (!) about what has happened to our favourite forum in the last few months, but for old times sake I emailed feedback@keypublishing.com to grumble about this thread suddenly disappearing on 10 May. They replied within hours that they would look into it. I reminded them a couple of days later and today I find the thread reinstated. So someone is following us, but why did they axe it in the first place? Thanks are due nevertheless. But, please Key, don’t remove threads. And where are all the deleted posts?
Laurence
I would suggest that when you post this sort of message you state a date, or at least make it clear that you are not reporting something that has just happened (even if the reference is to an aircraft that could not be involved just now). The title “Beaufighter crashed at Detling Kent” may cause a shock at first sight.

There is more about his family, if you want it. Also copies of his Aviator’s certificate (and photograph), number 8319 dated 1.7.1928 at Cinque Ports FC on DH60X.
He too was a solicitor, like his Dad.
If you want any of this let me know.

A bit more from Ancestry: born 6.8.1900 Egham, father Alexander Dallas Brett, solicitor (!), mother Ethel Mary. 23 Station Rd, Egham. Baptised 3.9.1900, Egham, St Johns.

I had a quick look at https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/ and see: 180249 RAF 1918, 79293 Flt Lt 1942, temporary Sqn Ldr 1944.
I assume that Rifleman RD Brett S4311 may be a different person, but I didn’t check further.
I’ll have another look round.
Cheers, Laurence
Not a photo, but a drawing from The Aeroplane. Any help? Also try the IWM photo collection.

To be clear, my comment above about a spammer refers to a post I reported today (that the administrators just removed) and not to the one by “hairy” from way back in 2009. As we still don’t have our posts numbered it is not easy to be sure what we are referring to.
I also took the opportunity to point out to feedback@key.aero that we still don’t have our Forum back to its old form.
Laurence
Blatant advertising in the post above.
“Key Aero” please sort it out. Thanks
