When I visited Cranfield in November 1962 the rear fuselage of Swift WK248was there, as well as the Supermarine 545 XA181. I didn’t see XF114 though.

Thanks. Our plans fell though in the end!
Looks more like a 4-ship than a 5. Not WW2, but post war.
Not only KF398, but also KF625 and FX265, here marked H-83 (was that a Southern Rhodesia code?), went to S Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) early 1950s. FX265 crashed at Eastleigh, Kenya, 7 April 1955. The one farthest from the camera might be KF348 … ?
If so, it was with 1340 Flight in Kenya, and crashed in the Aberdare Mts 19 april 1954.
KF625 was “Cymru Am Byth”, also with 1340 Flight, Kenya, in 1955.
They appear to have bomb racks under the wings, so maybe they were involved in Mau Mau operations in Kenya at the time.
Looking at the ground, it could well be in S Rhodesia or Kenya.
It’s an HO4S-2, from HMCS Magnificent, Canada’s aircraft carrier at the time. Magnificent made two visits to England in May and September 1955, and was in European waters for some time either side of both visits.
Thanks Lazy and welcome to the Forum. I note that the RCN had 13 HO4S-2 and -3 and you have given me the clue to the one in London in 1955. I wonder if we can pin it down to which one! If it was a -2, then that reduces the field. They were 55144, 305 and 320.
PS: I just noticed that this is my 1000th post!
I logged Valiant XD859 at Cambridge in November 1958. It may help date the others.
Re Fouga’s cited Facebook page, if you scroll down almost to the end you will see the rear fuselage of WK638 when it was in service with Oxford UAS at Bicester in 1962 or 1963 (and when I was too).
In fact it forms the subject of my avatar.
I wish I could take it on for old times’ sake. Pity about that Gavin.
I can’t see the aeroplanes for the smoke …
