What about the Horsa fuselage section at London Colney. Is that in its original paint?
Laurence

Next to a hangar full of Merlins in their original packaging.
Laurence
No problem! It would be good if you find out more. Take your time.
Happy New Year

Aha! After all this, we must try to solve the mystery. Let us know when you get more information.
Where was this film clip from? Why was it linked to this 1971 Zagreb thing? What, indeed, was the event in Zagreb?
Last time I was in Zagreb I certainly did not see a Halifax, but admittedly it was post 1971!
Laurence
I agree. It is always fun to get to the bottom of these mysteries. Equally, I cannot read those links!

But the fins look like the square version of the III, rather than the forward pointy ones of the II.
It seems impossible that this was a Halifax flying in Croatia in 1971.
Laurence
As I mentioned in the previous thread this seems to be a Halifax III from the fin shape of the squared, short wings. I have looked in the Thetford books and had a quick Google: I note that the last RAF and civilian Halifaxes were in 1952, and they were in service in Pakistan until 1961, so I wonder if your information is correct. What is its origin?
Laurence
It might be better to free up the Wotplane thread now. Why not start a new thread about that Halifax?

Hope to see a new thread with more details.
Laurence
Not part of the Wotplane posts, but that is a Halifax. Must be a Mk III I presume, from the fin shape and original short wings. But why was it in Zagreb I wonder, and as late as 1971?

I am happy (!) to see that WP803 is still around, especially at Booker where I used to fly quite a bit, but not in it.
Laurence
I remember WP803 at Bicester. It was used to do a lot of towing for the Gliding Centre. Anyone know if it is still around.
Took me a while to spot this thread! I flew WP803 with Oxford UAS at Bicester in 1961. It was also used for glider towing with the Windrushers. I note that it was with OUAS as “D” as late as 1969, but I think it went off somewhere else in between. I last saw it at the Abingdon display in September 1972, still towing for a living and marked “E”.

The picture above (post #87) of the Hawker 800 at “Prestwick” doesn’t look right to me.
The background looks more like Arizona than Glasgow. If you follow the Airliners.net link, you will see that N23204 (cn 258346) is owned by Lockheed Martin and destined for the South Korean Air Force.

A few posts ago, avion ancien mentioned “fiendish” clues to Chris. He might well live to regret that.

Gemini at Bicester
We talked about Gemini G-AKKH in posts between 27 and 33. Althought I started this thread as a haven for Messengers, here is KKH safely tucked away at Bicester in January 2010.
Laurence

OK. I think I am safe in saying that you can guess as often as you like, even if you have just won! We do this for fun, and to learn!
