I’m really confused as to what we’re actually getting. We got the fares at really knock down prices but a week later they were sky high again. This was before they announced the new system so I don’t know what I’m getting in terms of service, drinks an stuff.
I fly out this Friday and get back on Friday the 5 August.
Based on an old model it was doomed from the start. Got a patchy safety record too; quoted a few years back as the “Death Cruiser-10” and the “Mega Death-11”!
An Air Wales ATR-42-300 most probably. 6G operate it for baby along with ORK, PIK, CDG, and some BFS flights.
Despite what baby said it was always going to be the case that EMA would suffer when they started operating from BHX, not because of competition but becuase of babys chronic shortage of reliable aircraft. They don’t have enough to start with and the fact that they go tech every flight does’nt help
Surprised about the poor load factors. I live in Cardiff and round every corner on the main roads into the city you see some kind of billboard advertising the service. If thats the case closer to BRS then I don’t see how it could be a failure.
Surprised theres no big shadow
OK, what if I told you I have close ties with the Cardiff Chamber of Commerce and people within the Welsh Assembly Government, and neither of them are particularly thrilled with the plans. The Chamber of Commerce hates the idea in fact, becuase not only will they have to pay for the scheme through taxes, but their will be even more impetus on them to establish links with northern companies. And that to be quite frank would be catastrophic. Yes, it’s a shame that the north doesn’t share the souths prosperity, but unfortunately the areas economic stability and attractivness to investers & companies is very shaky- a serious lack of investment by the government itself has left parts of it very run down which in turn warns off prospective employers. The problems are far more wide ranging though- few main roads, low income farming, social problems like drug abuse and teen pregnancies all equal a big turn off for everybody concerned. The market just isn’t there in north Wales, the west especially. The east is better off becuase there are more main roads, larger towns, and they are closer to LPL, but it’s questionable whether this contributes, as prosperity still isn’t great. The assembly workers don’t like the idea either. Although the bigshots are all for it, ask any of the 10,000 other personal and they all think it’s going to be a drain on much needed money rather than a catalyst for regeneration. Even if there was market, Valley is miles away from any real towns. Air Wales couldn’t make SWS work and thats just a few miles outside Swansea, a city with 280,000 people. The whole of north Wales hasn’t got that many people! The government should be building better roads, improving the health service ( which in Wales is diabolicle) and investing in education (which although at present is quite good, a funding shortage has left many schools unable to afford photocopying) which is the key to attracting employers.
I wonder if any other airports will benefit aside from the London ones. Probably not 🙁
Yes, every airport seems to be copying the other in re-designing their websites.
Yeh, it’s hard to believe that back in 93 was the first time CWL broke through the 1m mark, well before BRS, yet 12 years on we still haven’t got through 2m when BRS is carrying twice as many. Down to lack of investment and the fact that unfortunately, airlines have come and gone- uptakes allways been good, yet for some reason airlines have had a summer of sucess then just gone, moving on to bigger bases. Now things are starting to change though, because airlines can actually see the potential, especially now more is being invested- the rail link, plans for much improved road links, and expansion of the terminal, although really they could do with demolishing the exisiting terminal and starting from scratch, because it’s just generally dated in design with hardly any natural light.
Hopefully now Abertis (a Spanish company) have bought TBI, the owners of CWL, we’ll see scheduled links to Barcelona & Madrid, as these have long been demanded by passengers. Theres a general lack of scheduled services to European cities in general, which despite many calls by the public for more to be introduced, none have.
It’s stupid if you ask me. They should either have 2 operations- a loco & a full service- or just 1 whether it be loco or full service. Having 2 brands with exactly the same fares and service that even share websites is just more expensive to manage and more confusing to customers.
No bmibaby are NOT operating from LHR.
The website is very misleading then, becuase yesterday the big home page advert read- “Tiny lands at Heathrow”- whereas it should have said- “Tiny fares land at Heathrow”
I don’t know about BFS, but at the launch of the Toronto service from CWL they announced that they were definately serving CWL- Vancouver along with Toronto next year, so expect they’ll probably follow the same pattern. Has the Toronto service been extended right through the winter at BFS too like CWL?
Would have to agree there.
I started this topic a while ago but it seems AZ have escaped again. They’ve struck adeal tp pay back the loan in stages, and have devised a turnaround plan with the backing of the EU, and a key part of this planis sponsorship. Not surprisingly, most of the sponsers getting involved with them are companies in which the Italian government has a significant minority stake, or have close relations in supplying the govermnet. Of course, this way AZ get their money indirectly from the government, but it’s perfectly legal…
