Today baby started selling winter tickets for EMA & BHX, and tomorrow they start selling CWL, MAN and MME. But one very interesting point is that they have upgraded the route map on thier website to incorporate all bmi routes and airports as well as baby!
Maybe an assett in terms of routes, but surely not financially. It’s just been privatised but doesn’t seem to have done much- still borderline profit/loss
can you get any more youthful than me- 13? I don’t get it an nobody i know’ll get it either
So is bmibaby still bmibaby or just bmi? it seems pointless having the baby brand if you ask me but are they keeping it for the hell of it?
God awful! and what a crap slogan- ‘pure dead brilliant’ . What the hells that supposed to mean, it’s not even catchy or clever!
It’s still early days i suppose, airlines are waiting to see if it’s a success before launching there. I expect the major expansion will be over the next 2 years.
To last as long as possible they’re taking the 400m euro loan in stages- so far they’ve recieved 150m euros. This buys them time- but instead of doing something constructive with this time they’re just trying to go out with a bang, maybe pick up a customer service award or two- so they are basically prolonging the final collapse. This could be something to do with the Italian general election next year- Mr Berlusconis government is hugely unpopular due to the Iraq war and Italys failing economy. They suffered a landslide defeat in the regional elections this year and are expected to suffer the same fate next year, so are pulling out all the stops to win back support. So far this has failed- Italys economy has gone into recession and the countries two biggest employers, Fiat Auto & Alitalia, are on the verge of bankruptcy. So, politics has alot to do with Alitalias affairs, and from now to the end Alitalia will not be aiming to return to profitability, just to leave a legacy as a class benchmark amoung European airlines, and to give Mr Berlusconi a final election chance.
Surely it would be easier to just merge the bmibaby brand into bmi, so they operate under one name. As it is many bmi fares are cheaper than that of baby, so with this new lo-co approach they are effectively the same airline. It must cut administrative costs having just 2 brands- bmi & bmi regional- instead of 3.
there is huge market at CWL and yes baby is neglecting us. a source of mine told me a few months ago that Jet2s next base is CWL, but their in no rush to expand bases until they’ve fully tapped the market at LBA and MAN
this is dead cert to be a success, just wish it went 2 CWL instead 🙁
oops sorry
because Alitalia have just months to live and AF have already said that if Alitalias finances were good they’d merge them into the Air France-KLM group immediately because there would be signifiacnt financial gains. this picture could be the foundations of Alitalias successor
lol, yeh, nothing much happens at Cardiff!
i agree that it’s catastrophic the way flag carriers go under but in Alitalias case it’s been coming to them for a long time. They’ve failed to make a profit for 12 consecutive years! They’ve had over a decade to sort it out but haven’t, yet BA managed to do it in 3 years. It’s their own fault, now finally they’re taking notice but it’s 12 years too late. I expect Air France and Swiss will take over most AZ routes in the short term. AZ wanted to join the AF/KLM group but they said AZ must sort out their finances first, so they could make alot out of taking over routes. Also, Swiss is set to become part of Luftthansa, so Milan could be a real earner for them.
In Olympics case I’ve allways felt it must be really difficult to make it work. Greece is made up of like hundreds of islands, so apart from Athens which is your next hub? None of them are big enough to support large pax operations, yet they all demand air services.
Malevs in a bad way too!
I saw an A310 with that liverly in Faro 4 years ago, wonder if thats it?
