I thought they would have been shedding aircraft not buying them. I thought this was supposed to be a smaller AZ if they get through it.

Their brave. They must be confident that they can strike a deal with the unions but i don’t see how. They only have one plan and the unions rejected it because it shed a quarter of the workforce, plus the Italien Government have showed their willingness to let Alitalia go bankrupt. Like you sed galdri, they say they run out of cash at the end of September. If they do go I wonder who’ll take over the Rome & Milan hubs? I can see a smaller airline emerging taking over part of Milan like Swiss came from Swissair but I can’t see the viability of operating Rome as a second hub. Thats partly Alitalias problem;to keep both political parties happy they have to operate a hub for the north & a hub for the south which results in more costs and less profit because their simply isn’t the demand for that bigger network at Rome.

Have the timings been announced? If there are morning flights then there might be problems. Apparently BRS has a terrible weather record and many morning flights get diverted to CWL because the fog at BRS is so bad. If the main passengers on this route are travelling for buisness then delays like that are no good;it could result in someone missing an appointment in NY or something!I know it sounds stupid but if you are a buisnessman travelling to NY to discuss one of the most important buisness deals of your life you don’t want to cut it very fine or even miss it for the sake of fog.

I wouldn’t consider BA to be our flag carrier. OK, we’re a principality not a nation, but we’ve got an international airport and they don’t operate from it, meaning they can’t be our flag carrier. We’ve got our own flag, so our flag carrier should be AirWales.

I’ve seen a Welsh flag one at EMA last year.Though the 2 are based at CWL they spend most of the time at EMA

when will the improvements on Geronas runway take place? I guess it’ll be this winter because with all the holiday traffic in the summer it would be impossible.

Larnakas toilets are ridiculas in the baggage hall, their about as big as the toilets in my local library! I went in on XLA 738 but at the same time there was a TCY 752 & a MYT A320 plus some flight from Athens. The queue snaked round 2 of the baggage carrousals!!

As a Welshman living in Cardiff I can honestly say I hate the Welsh language because it’s hell to learn and when it comes to it your only ever gonna use it if a)You live in a Welsh community or b)Your going to get a job where it’s neccesary to speak Welsh, but despite feeble attempts by the Assembly Govenment to get buisness’ elsewhere to incorporate Welsh the only place your gonna get a job like that is North Wales, and unless you live in North Wales not many Welsh people want to go there. Where I live in a north Cardiff suburb there is a minority of Welsh speakers but I know it’s one of the largest minorities in Cardiff. It may seem like a nice thought to be a bilingual airline but most people will just turn a blind eye;it’s more routes we want not more languages!

I know Manx had a much stonger network from CWL than Citiexpress did when they took over but I’m not sure how many routes they actually had. Does anyone know how many routes Manx had from CWL and what they were?

I see where your coming from and I agree in that I much prefer the 757 over the A321, even though I havn’t yet travelled on an A321. But i guess it’s modernisation;the 757 replaced the 727 & likewise the A321 is replacing the 757. Their getting on now and though passengers still find them comfy from the airlines point of view it makes more economic sence to re-new the fleet when it’s going well (or in MYT’s case they have to) than to wait till things go wrong and then being stuck in the lurch.

Ah, they used to have quite a large presence at Cardiff because they made it their European hub, then they disappeard and BA Citiexpress moved in and I didn’t make the connection. BA cut back alot of the previous Manx routes then, getting ready to pull out when they did.

Just got back from Cyprus so only just heard the news. As much as I want it to work I don’t think it will. Heres the facts:

The demand for Norwich-Dublin is huge, but it’ll never work with only 3 flights weekly, it has to be once daily at a minimum.

The timings are odd-not much good for business.

There isn’t much coverage for the weekend tourist market.

The flight from Cardiff-Norwich is a positioning flight with tickets for sale, it has no commercial viability at all.

I am saying this because I know the reputation my flag carrier has; A property developer from Swansea decided he wanted to make more dosh so got together a bunch of amateurs & set up an airline. The Manchester, Galway, Liverpool & Brussells services have shown that they don’t look into the viability of routes, but they see a gap & fill it, whatever the cost. I would love to see this route work but as far as I can see it this is another flawed decision by a worried airline.

ps. the London City route has been cut back- They have reduced their previous twice daily (except Sat) service- it now only runs on Sunday, Monday and Friday.
