Someone I know has a friend who is a marketing director of Jet2 and he said Jet2 were seriously condidering announcing CWL as a new base in September because research showed there was still a big market to be had. Like you said baby are concentrating on MAN & BHX so CWL probably won’t get any new routes from them for a while so that still leaves:Knock, Bordeux, Nice, Barcelona, Murcia, Ibiza, Faro, Venice all of which are served by one of the two and theres still a huge demand for Lyon, Munich, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf & Milan.
Jet2 should be coming into CWL soon anyway.im fed up of baby cutting routes.
there was a dissagreement over licensing or something to do with the CAA & BRS. I think easyjet complained about something.
why cant cardiff have some German routes, baby axed munich a while back and since then we’ve had nothing. theres a real market for flights to munich, dusseldorf & berlin from CWL at the moment. the munich route was stopped because of some dissagreement with the CAA regarding BRS’ service to Munich.
It’s not only the charter airline reducing fleet numbers;MyTravel Lite are operating their smallest ever network this winter from BHX and matters are now made worse by bmibaby moving in. They are expected to announce fleet reductions and bets are on that they’ll be gone by next winter. They announced job cuts a few weeks ago.
Are any of the new aircraft next summer going to Cardiff for more routes?

It does stink but I guess it’s a case of sink or swim for the company;with increased competition from TUI & Thomas Cook it’s taken them longer than expected to at least cut losses let alone return to profit. I bet Brittania will take over loads from Cardiff but not sure about STN or LBA.
BABY CAN MAKE CWL WORK! CWL has worked and this is the first time passenger figures are down and there down for 1 reason;this is the first financial quarter that bmibaby hasn’t launched any new routes in. When they launch new routes obviously theres going to be more passengers, but this quarter they havn’t launched any new routes and have actually cut routes-Milan- and cut frequencies-Prestwick- which is why there down. It’s going to be even worse this quarter because their cutting Toulouse & Jersey and replacing them with Geneva to allow aircraft for increased frequencies from MAN & EMA. The day Jet2 announces its coming into CWL will be the best news the airports had in a long time. Hopefully they will and bmibaby might expand to compete.

I’m not saying the service is bad, I’m just saying they need to think things through before they go off expanding at every oppertunity and then finding they havn’t enough resources and have to sacrifice routes at one base to subsidise another. I’m on about baby as opposed to BMI. Of course theres loads of cheap 737s around, thats why I don’t get why they don’t buy some! I fear this is the end of bmibaby at Cardiff. This winter they’ve dropped Jersey and Toulouse, on top of Milan earlier this year and the drafting out of Cork and Prestwick to Air Wales. I thought they might announce Nice, Murcia and possibly Barcelona in a few weeks but now their starting at BHX I very much doubt it. They also said that 3 aircraft would be based at BHX, probably the 3 presently at Cardiff.
