No, I think theres going to be overcapacity on the DUB route. Judging by the size and track record of the 3, Air wales should fall victim. However, Ryanair have awful timings, and this has made them second best to Air Wales on the DUB route for almost 3 years. So, Ryanair are likely to be the least successful, but their shear size and power will mean they won’t can the route, they’ll just carry on, like they always do. I mean, it would be humiliating for them to fall victim to two relatively small regional carriers.
If they do merge, Aer Arann would be the dominant partner. Air wales don’t have the cash- they haven’t made a profit since they srated 5 years ago. Roy Thomas has kept them afloat
I think BAs future is long haul travel mostly. The European routes are performing ok, and are showing small passenger rises, but these rises are nothing compared to those seen in the long haul sector. I don’t think they’ll ever stop European routes altogether, more probably they’ll shift focus to central and eastern Europe where the market is growing, and let the traditioanl routes in the west just tick over, without any real expansion. Certainly when China & India fully opens up their air travel market BA will make alot of money. I can quite easily see BA Citiexpress going though. They’ve already scaled back alot and I can see them gone within 5 or 6 years.
Yeh, but still. Combine 10xweekly with twice daily flights by both Air wales and AerArann seperately and thats alot of capacity.
!!really? It was showing 6X weekly yesterday! ah well. Might as well delete this thread.
This is really weird. All the routes are there on the booking facility and you can actually book & theres flight numbers and everything so I think these routes must be going ahead. However, when you go onto destinations & timetables loads of routes have gone! Also MAN- Rennes is apparently full right thru April?! They really need to get a new website designer/management company. This ones useless.
Lets hope it holds, what with Air Southwest and Air Wales both focusing their attentions elsewhere for now.
Indeed, thats what I was thinking. The momentum seems to be with EXT & NQY for the south west, and PLH is turning out to be the victim of their success.
Air Wales, Aer Arann and Air Southwest are all in the same cut-throught market of regional air services to and from the south Wales and the southwest of England. Naturally things are going to get bloody, but there seems to be more to this than meets the eye. When Aer Arann announced CWL-DUB & BHD, and Air Wales announced EXT & NQY-ORK, someone here suggested a possible takeover by Aer Arann of Air Wales. I poo pooed the idea, I thought it was too hasty and it was just a bit competition between the two airlines. Now however, things have changed. Air Wales has severed ties with bmibaby on all but one route. In recent weeks they have slashed fares on a number of routes, coincidently to fit better into Aer Aranns sort of price bracket. They and RR have announced the Irish routes mentioned, and now a number of routes show up on their website that look very much like Aer Arann destinations. Whats more, they have not denied the existence of these upcoming services or blamed it on system errors. Instead they have left the door wide open, and not promised anything. Now, it all fits and Aer Arann taking over Air Wales seems highly likely to me. There would be minimal changes needed; both airlines operate the same aircraft, similar routes. The fact that Air Wales is supposedly Wales’ “national airline” doesn’t really matter. Ireland and Wales are both Celtic nations and have always held very close ties. Celtic Air or Celtline, something like that, would suit both airlines perfectly. What do we all think?
Wow! I knew there was a masterplan being published but I didn’t think it would be in Feb. Theres been some fuss lately with environmental groups demanding to see the airports masterplan, but the airport have refused saying that the masterplan was now defunct and they are working on a new one. I bet if they did give it to them though they’d just start waving banners about denouncing the airport and tell us all to use BRS. No Chance! 😉
Thought all the 732’s had been disposed of? :p
Not quite yet. They carried on using them longer than planned because of the shortage, but they can’t use them after the 31 December. Most have now been taken out of service, just one or two still on standby. This is why there have been more delays than usual concerning Ryanair lately.
They must like bmi more than KLM
Cheaper, thats it.
KLM is hard to beat to AMS, most locos that have decided to compete with them have ended up either cutting back or ditching it altogether. Jurys out on this one, it’ll be difficult but do-able. But they’ll have to get the fares and timings exactly right, and do some hefty advertising.
MOL claims he is a millionaire, why not buy more, or lease more :diablo: :dev2:
Thats the point. He has done, but they’re going to arrive later than planned. What with the high fuel prices, I guess they figure it’s not worth leasing a/c for such a short length of time when its not going to have any significant effect of their profits.
Other sites but the more specific stuff is from emailing people at the airport itself- the contact details are on http://www.cwlfly.com As long as you’re not pushy or act like your from the press or a campaign group, they usually give you at least some good info. I first found out about though by going on opco constructions website, and it said it was a forthcoming project.
Good to see them diversify.
