From Grange Hill to Eastenders
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-02-03 AT 03:34 AM (GMT)]Hey, no one here from the 80’s?
If you watched E.enders last week (hence Mark’s farewell), how could you forget Mark from Grange Hill days? :+
I wonder if anyone remembers the Grange Hill Headmistrss’ name: Mrs ??? ………
I was too young to remember all the plots & details, but I can even today recognise the theme tune from “miles away” !!!!! Those were the days ……… 😉

RE: Peace Protestors
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-02-03 AT 11:06 AM (GMT)]I think the issue has gone way way beyond who supplied what to whom.
If Saddam is let off the hook there could be whole lotta troubles with all kinda other rogue nations trying to tweek the lion’s tail.
Given French record in Africa & Mid-East, their current concerns for the Iraqi civilians are a bit like the Dracula preaching vegetarianism. French motives are dubious and a recepie for far greater bloodshed around the world.
It is a (dreadful and sad sad) fact of life that civilians die in wars and they will die in Iraqi war too. But Saddam must go, one way or the other.
As someone who knows something about history, I’d rather have US (however imperfect) as the leader of the free world than the French. French past is bloody and shameful.
Lets not forget civilians died in NY on 9/11 too.
My only regret is that the party that stands to gain most from the Iraq-war (and the resulting possible deaths of UK/US soldiers and Iraqi soldiers/civilians) is hiding behind the curtains in the current debate: ISRAEL.

RE: Happy Eid al-Adha folks …………………..
Griffin buddy, Good to hear from you.
Listen, I have been meaning to ask this question of an Indonesian for almost a couple of years (!!):
A while back there were press reports that at the time of E. Timor independence that bunch of convicts (otherwise known as Aussies) had contingency plans to bomb Jakarta if Indonesians did not play ball.
Question: Did Indonesians take the treat of Aussi Air Force bombing Jakarta seriously? And if so what would have been the outcome? Could the Indonesian Air Force have put up a decent fight against the Aussies?
Thanks.

RE: UPDATE – Man held in Gatwick grenade alert
Correction: the man is a Columbian (Bagota) but travelled from Venezuela.
RE: UPDATE – Man held in Gatwick grenade alert
BBC are reporting ………..
The “Grenade Man” has NO connection with the current Terror Alert.
This man is from Venezuela.
So the high-level terror alert continues ………..

kabirT,

Fine by me too. 😉 😉 😉
Justice in canada. No justice in India
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-02-03 AT 04:07 AM (GMT)]I am pleased that the terrorist has been brought to justice by the Canadian Law Enforcement Agencies, albeit the final sentence is not to everyone’s satisfaction.
However I find it grotesquely offensive that, as John mentioned above, 99% of the Hindu zealots (responsible for butchering tens of thousands of Sikh children, the elderly, women, and men in open streets of Indian cities) have never even been brought before a court.
Sikh terrorism stemmed directly from the attrocities committed by Hindu zealots against the minority sikh community.
Kabir, you are disrespecting the memory of countless souls by describing this genocide as a “communal riot”.
If hacking into pieces of tens of thousands of UNARMED innocent Sikh civilians by an organised mob of Hindu zealots (who were given lists of names and addresses of Sikh families by the police chiefs and who butchered Sikh families under the gazes of police officers) is a “communal riot” then may be you would like to redefine the Holocaust too.
PS: I do however strongly agree with you that we should not bring religion into it: lets just look at Indian justice, the Role of the Hindu zealots (not the Hindu religion) and the Sikh victims of the genocide (not the Sikh religion).
We should be discussing this in the General Forum, but since someone opened the thread here, this will do.

>>>IMHO Michael Jackson TRULY LOVES children probably because he missed out on his childhood, the thought that he would do that to a child is unbelievable.<<<
Totally agree.
I used to think Bashir is a man of integrity; my former girlfreind used to admire him because, she thought, he helped Princess Diana.
However after this episode I think he is just another ratings-chasing “hound” (to use the Private Eye terminology). His voice-over/editing of the M. Jackson documentary resembled worst headlines from a cheap tabloid.
I have never been an MJ fan but in this case he has my full sympathy. I do belive that he genuinly cares for children; only a truly evil and sick person would try to abuse a child who is dying of cancer, and I do not believe Jackson is that man.

>spot. Good on them…
Correction: I viewed CBBC Chart yesterday and Oasis came in straight at the top spot, pushing Tatu to No.2; You may see other charts this week showing the same top-spot-swap.

Exactly my point.
