Your eyes are much better than my ones :). You are right.
This suggests that the two seater Mig-21/F-7 shown on the picture on the first blog really is a new F-7.
Where did you see a F-7 in the first blog?
Thanks, it’s nice to get that confirmed. The MiG-21 operator’s manual must count as a bulletproof source. 😀 However, have never seen this combination used. Somebody told me the 800 liter tank wasn’t popular because it made the MiG-21 handle badly.
Which version of the MiG-21 is that manual for, the MF or the bis?
I know, I am a bit late with my reply.:) But here you can see this configuration in use. And the pilot did a barrel roll with this load after take off!

I’ve only seen the following images on the web

What I see on these pictures are definitely MiG-21bis SAU as they feature the antenna of SAU-23 ILS which I so far never saw on any other MiG-21 variant. And MiG-21 with heat exchangers under the fuselage were overhauled in Dresden / East Germany too. Their c/n clearly showed that they were MiG-21bis. So I would only accept that the aircraft we are talking about are of a different version if anybody can give me an appropriate c/n (if you like via PM).
Insignia looks like photoshop.
See also decals of a Yemeni MiG-21 on ‘Fancy Fishbeds’ sheet by El Presidente Decals, based on photos taken there.
But it’s not.
For more details see our article Black Sea Exotics in AFM June 2008 and decals by El Presidente created based on the pictures taken there.
VPAF Su-22’s wingpylon with missile.
It’s obviously a MiG-21 and for sure not a Vietnamese one. See http://www.MiG-21.de/english/technicaldataupgradesarmament.htm
Poland has an annual highway strip exercise called DOL. MiG-21s, 29s, Fitters etc all use it.
I think there’s pics of only about 5 of them actually…there’s pictures where several can be seen but their serials can’t be seen…so maybe.
This new paint on the cockpit, nose and tail rudder must be very recent…since it doesn’t appear in pictures of this same 0207 aircraft taken a few years eariler (I think the latest of this one is from 1999…and this one is from 2005). BTW it is in one of the hardened shelters in Rinas…and you can see an engine next to it…
For current state of the Albanian F-7 see http://www.MiG-21.de/English/NewsArchive/Albania2006.htm. Pictures were taken last week.
OK..
I think, the silver 21 with opened braking chute is also a photoshopped polish MF .
If you have photos of -F or -SMT, please take up here.
Thank you for the corrections.

You forget the MT. Only fifteen built, and i don’t think i’ve ever seen a pic.
If you can tell me the item no (izdelye) of this version I will try to believe this version existed. I think so far nobody saw a picture of this type.
On this way…the scarcest variant the MiG-21-93
I talk about photos.
Or do you have a lot of operational SMT photos ?
( I corrected my words )
MiG-21-93 is an upgrade programme, not a version. Furthermore, though I don’t know exactly the current state of the Indian MiG-21bis UPG or Bison programme (what is in fact the MiG-21-93) but the number of aircraft to be upgraded is 125. At least the number of MiG-21F remained below this figure.
It should be possible to find more than ten photos of operational SMTs but I can’t remember more than three or four pictures of MiG-21F (not to confuse with MiG-21F-13).
By the way – the picture of a pair of “Soviet” MiG-21s you posted is a bad fake showing photoshopped Czech MiG-21MF / MFN.
MiG-21SMTs, the most rare subvariant of the type.
Scarcest MiG-21 variant is F, followed by S.
