Yip, would probably be a good basis. And could be realized within reasonable time.

I agree too, but I would like the wings over the cabin, so the crew can access/exit easier & extra streamline covering for IF-probe, sensors and front carriage.

    New chopper?

I just saw this picture at China Defence Blogspot in a higher resolution.
    Very suspicious…
In my first humble opinion, it might be a PS-ed picture, front part from a EH101 & aft part from a S-92 Superhawk.

    US 1549 @ Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum

IMHO, the wrecked fuselage of US Airways flight 1549 should be on display at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York. I can see it resting on a barge or on a pier, just as the Concorde there.

R.I.P. Green / Flugzeuge der Welt

    R.I.P. Green

My Dad start collecting his book “Observers Book of Aircraft” since the 60’s. Some in English, other in German.
Later on I hided, mmh, stored his issues over the years.
I still keep the newest issue like the bible near my bed. 😉 😀

Unfortunately the original English issue was stopped published in the beginning of the 90’s.
The Swiss Author Claudio Mueller, who had translated it into German over the years, kept publishing it in German under the title “Flugzeuge der Welt”. During the last 15 years or so Claudio changed a lot like colour pictures, helicopters no longer separated at the end but now alphabetic ordered in-between, more details and the 3-view drawing is now on the left page and so on.
Since two years a new issue costs only 9,95 Euros ( ~ £ 8.85), so not a bad price performance ratio. Normally it’s published in April, so it’s a nice present for my Birthday. 🙂
But I must say also, that “Flugzeuge der Welt 2009” was a major misprint.
I hope, that “Flugzeuge der Welt 2010” will be better.

Still I use the old issues from William Green. Just a few days ago, I looked up some information about the early Dassault Biz-jet family.

    His legacy lives on…

I’m sure this has been discussed on other forums, but what is the likelyhood that the F-35a will be sold to the USAF with a probe? Surely they need it for foreign air forces anyway?
The F-35b will have it also

Funny, the first F-35 AA-1 will have both systems, just for test flights, of course! 😀

Land based SM-3 is a paper design at this point. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t part of the announcement (they were talking about ships as I recall.)

The land based SM-3 was discussed yesterday at Senate Armed Services Committee. 🙂

I am confused…what exactly is the purpose of this C17?

After the Tsunami 2004, some wealthy Muslim countries noticed that they had a lot of money and help for the nations in the , but no airlift capability.

So the reason for Qatar (and UAE also) to use Boeing’s C-17 airlifter is for humanitarian and peacekeeping cargo missions around the world, especially in Muslim countries.

…Qatar “has expressed an interest to acquire” the C-17, Bruce Lemkin, deputy under secretary of the Air Force for international affairs, said in an interview at the Farnborough International Airshow.

A high-wing, four-engine, T-tailed aircraft with a rear-loading ramp, the C-17 can carry large combat equipment and troops or humanitarian aid between continents to small, austere airfields worldwide.

Qatari officials could not immediately be reached for comment. They are negotiating to buy two C-17s with an option for two more, a person familiar with the matter said.

This person said Qatar is interested in being able to respond to humanitarian crises such as tsunamis and earthquakes in what he described as a new way for a Muslim nation.

“They want to be able to fly in with something that has an Arab flag on its tail,” said the person, who asked not to be identified….

    Is this said IRIS-T variant?

The IDAS is based on IRIS-T. They share the same seeker head.
The German Navy will have this system from 2014 on.

What’s on the inboard pylons? Are they EW pods?

It looks, that those pods are between the two weapon stations on the wings. So it seems, that the J-10B has integrated ECM/EW pods.
