Some German AF students I taught a couple of weeks ago said that the Armiger was canceled.

I asked at Flugzeugforum.de, and a member wrote back that the German Armed Forces have canceled the purchase of The ARMIGER. 🙁
So the program status is back to the shelves.

I presume, it was built for a movie (007?) or for the british TV-series “Top-Gear” or “The Stig”

Thats because the sensor isnt going to be housed on the AA1.

😮 Yeah, I should have thought first, the Eurofighter /Rafale prototypes had also a dummy IRST housing! 😉

Also – I’m not going to believe that it’s the lightning II until I see an
official naming ceremony. Everyone thougth the Raptor was lightning II
until the ceremony itself.

Yes, Raptor was that time a big surprise.
But while reading Dallas News the last few days, which has contacts at Lockheed Ft. Worth, F-35 Lightning II seems to be quite true!

Dallas Morning News – F-35 to be dubbed Lightning II

at 14.00ET (3 hours from now) on the pentagon channel, there will be live coverage from Fort Worth TX.
apparently they have some news on the F-35, could it be the name’s official announcement. live couverage can be viewed at the website.

The GAU-12/U 25 mm cannon on the backbord side of the F-35A (only for CTOL – & USAF – version).
