As a kid my grandfather used to say:
100 years ago an american Bishop invited the teacher of his two sons for an evening meal. While eating the dessert they talked about innovations of mankind.
The teacher said: “One day mankind will fly with ships through the sky and to the stars.”
The bishop answered: “Nonsense! Only angels can fly!!!”
The name of the bishop was Wright.
He had two sons. Orville and Wilbur.

I think, it use to operate for Austrian Airlines (OE-LAH (cn 081)).
PARIS β The French Air Force is to lease two Airbus A340 commercial jets to transport troops over long distances, France’s Defense Ministry said Friday.
It is the first time the ministry has leased operational military equipment.
The annual cost will be EUR25.8 million, representing a saving of about 30% compared with a full ownership arrangement, the ministry said. The cost of the aircrew and maintenance will be shared equally between the Air Force and the lessors.
The five-year lease was arranged with airline TAP Air Portugal (TPA.YY) and financing was arranged through Ingepar, a financing unit of French financial institution Groupe Caisse d’Epargne (CCE.YY).
The air force will also have an option to eventually buy the four-engined Airbus jets, which will be delivered in July 2006 and January 2007.
The lease will be a stop-gap until the air force starts receiving tanker transport aircraft, planned for 2010.

Maybe after the test they opened all doors and extended all slides to show that they also work.
I want that A380 with all those slides at my nearest playground. π

The A380-800F has two cargo doors on the backbord side, one in the front for the upper deck and one in the back for the main deck. There is no B747-like nose door, lack of need for nose cargo-door was confirmed by dialogue with potential customers before launching the A380F, anyway the flight deck would be in the way.
The European Air Forces need Transportes Γ‘ la C-17 or A400M.

The FlBschft BMVg of the GAF has 7 A310’s.
The first two machines have inclusive VIP kits, two bedrooms and 12 seats with work surfaces . In the rear of the machine 79 economy seats are inserted.
This A-310 has 214 seats in the economy class and is used for the transport of personnel and material.
These 4 Airbuses will be transformed to MRTT until summer 2006.
The GAF has two MedEvac conversion kits, so two of the four A310s MRTT can be converted into flying intensive care aircrafts.

In october 1992 a Russian Mi-24 shot down a Georgian AF Mil probably of the same type: Mi-24. I’m unsure about the weapon used.
