    Eurocopter and Sikorsky

    Here the news:
Forbes.com – AFX: Eurocopter mulling production of first heavy lift helicopter

Eurocopter and Sikorsky should not work on a totally new helicopter like CH-53X/ HLH, they should build the CH-53K together. Eurocopter could build the middle and back fuselage, and Sikorsky the cockpit section, gearbox, engines housings and rotor… . It would fly first around 2010-2011, in service by 2013-14.
The german CH-53G(S) was also built be VFW-Fokker, now part of EADS and Eurocopter.
This is the Sikorsky CH-53HLH/HLT (maybe CH-53X) Concept for the German Army a few years ago.

    “Mozart Jahr”

Not too bad….but…Salzburg airport is already named “SALZBURG/MOZART International”…..so perhaps a recognition for one of Austria’s famous sons would not go on an airplane….instead of being generic???

The year 2006 is dedicated to Mozart in Germany and in Austria, because he was born 250 years ago ( *27th January 1756 in Salzburg, † 5th December 1791 in Vienna). Maybe we might see an aircraft with Mozart soon.

Last year was dedicated to Einstein in Germany.

The engines should have the same blue colour as the wing box or better – in the colours of the austrian flag.
    I hate “baby blue”!!!

    “Mozart Jahr” = Mozart year

Yes, I forgot to translate, that it would be a good weapon against small boats full with TNT and terrorists. The development of this system was based on the attack against the USS Cole.

    So much so far:

    IRIS-T contract signed

On December 20, 2004, the contract covering series production of the air-to air guided missile IRIS-T was signed by the Federal Office for Military Technology and Procurement (BWB) and Diehl BGT Defence & Co. KG, a company of the Nuremberg-based Diehl Group. The BWB acted on behalf of all six European nations participating in the IRIS-T program. The series production contract is worth 1 billion Euro and makes an essential contribution to safeguarding core capabilities at Diehl. In the IRIS-T program, Germany acts as lead nation and Diehl BGT Defence as prime contractor.
The IRIS-T guided missile was developed in a multi-national European program under the lead of the industrial prime contractor Diehl BGT Defence. IRIS-T is a successor of the Sidewinder missile produced in US license. The dog fight-optimised IRIS-T will be operational on modern combat aircraft such as the Eurofighter, Tornado, F-16 and F-18 in the air forces of Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Spain and Sweden. Deliveries of the more than 4.000 IRIS-T guided missiles will last until 2011. The air-to-air missile IRIS-T is also being considered for a surface-launched role and other forms of air defence.
