Did not J.P. Santiago aka Sentinel Chicken draw a RAF Boeing RC-135K profile a few years ago?

    Edit:
Ahh, yes, found a RAF Boeing 707 R.1 at whatifmodelers.com!

I just had a look and something got me- where’s the flag of Chile? Haven’t they ordered some, therefore should they not be on there as well?

The Chilean Air Force signed 2005 a MOU for 3 aircraft to be delivered between 2018 and 2022, although the deal was cancelled (in 2007?) following the country’s decision to defer procurement.

Anyone know why all the flags down the side of the air intake are reversed?

I thought at first the image had been flipped, but all the other markings are correct.

On the uniforms of U.S. troops the flag is also flipped on the right shoulder!
    The stars point forward!

The flag is worn on the right shoulder to give the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward

Lockheed Martin F-35B STOVL Stealth Fighter Achieves Successful First Flight

    Press release:

    FORT WORTH, Texas, June 11th, 2008 —

F-35B STOVL Takes Off For The First Time

With test pilot Graham Tomlinson at the controls, the short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] F-35B Lightning II streaked into blue Texas skies Wednesday, marking the first flight of an aircraft that will provide a combination of capabilities never before available: stealth, supersonic speed and STOVL basing flexibility.

Tomlinson, a former Royal Air Force Harrier pilot now employed by BAE Systems, performed a conventional takeoff at 10:17 a.m. CDT from Lockheed Martin’s Fort Worth facility. As planned, all initial F-35B flights will be made using conventional takeoffs and landings, with transitions to short takeoffs, hovers and vertical landings beginning early next year. Tomlinson guided the jet to 15,000 feet and performed a series of handling tests, engine-power variations and subsystems checks before landing at 11:01 a.m. CDT.

    Qatar!

Qatar, that would be a surprise.

With deliveries to Australia, Canada (four aircraft each) and the UK (six aircraft) complete, Boeing urgently needs further orders if it is to avoid closing the C-17 production line, even if (as is widely expected) the USAF orders 15 more using funding from emergency supplemental appropriations, and even if a rumoured order for two aircraft from Qatar materialises. It has been suggested that without a substantial additional C-17 order, NATO could ‘miss the boat’ – with Qatar and the USAF taking all of the aircraft for which production slots have been booked, and with NATO’s two aircraft order being insufficient to stretch the line further.

Saab conducted the maiden flight with the Gripen Demo, the test bed for the further development of Gripen. The flight lasted for 30 minutes and went “totally according to plan,” Saab says.Since the Gripen Demo was presented, the programme has proceeded with ground trials and continual evaluations in order to guarantee flight safety. Tuesday´s flight took place in good weather from Saab´s airfield in Linköping. Maximum altitude for the first flight was 6,400 meters and maximum speed was 320 knots. [….]

The ‘surprise’ is probably the ‘operational’ Su-34…..

    … or a new built Tu-160 bomber.

Still I wouldn’t get too excited

    ……..
BTW – Can anyone confirm the NG/EADS KC-45 proposal includes a centerline drogue next to the boom (a’la KC-10)? The artist renderings I have seen haven’t made that clear.

The KC-45’s two underwing refueling pods are installed on pre-existing hardpoints that already are outfitted for fuel and power – requiring no structural modifications to the wing. The maximum offload rate for the pods is 2,800 lbs/min.

A centerline hose drum refueling unit is located under the aft fuselage, providing an additional hose and drogue contact point with a 90-ft. hose length. Maximum offload rate for this refueling unit is 4,000 lbs/min.
