I remember seeing a AV-8B with 2 extra wingtip missile launchers a few years ago in the german mag “Flug-Revue”. I think, these launchers were used for SR-AAM’s like AIM-9, ASRAAM or -that time not known- the AIM-9X.
What happend to this test programm?
Does anyone have any pic?

Forget the FB-22, forget the UCAV, forget cruise missiles…what we need to do is get out of the aerospace business and into the space business. A transatmospheric strike platform would have global range and the ability to strike any target on earth within 30 mintues to an hour.
Maybe the X-33 Venture Star is now a black programm??? 😉
What is that unknown pod shown on a silver AV-8B+’s centreline pylon published in the January 2005 issue of AFM???

I havent really come across any pics of the crash.
Here you have a video:
KVBC : Raptor Crash
From Deino:
There actually were two ex-Egyptian Su-20s, with bortkennzeichen 98+61 (now preserved at Berlin-Gatow, devoid of any markings) and 98+62 (now at Leeuwarden as ’56r’ with Soviet markings). Pics of those are welcome to this thread, i guess.
Folks, go to this link!!!
Here a pic from that site:

Yes, as far I like the EH101, the VH-92 will win!
Bad results for the EH101 in Canada have a deep inpact in the desission.
I presume, the “US90” (NH90) would have more sucess on the american continent!

Two in the Cockpit
And it’s planned to be a two-seater!
Two in the Cockpit
Lockheed believes the Air Force will want a two-seat FB-22. The second seat would accommodate a second pilot, who could relieve the front seater on long missions—the aircraft could be flying 15 hours or more—or take up additional duties with targeting. Lockheed did basic work on a two-seat F/A-22 [fightingirish: F-22B] early in the program, before the second-seat option was canceled to save money, so elaborate stealth refinement of an extended forward fuselage will not be necessary.
Indeed, except for the “60-inch plug” needed for the second crew station, the forward fuselage will not change, Perrigo said. The plug will also provide new room for expanded avionics or fuel. However, the aircraft will not carry a gun.

I remember, in the December 1998 Issue of Air International, there was a F-22 supplement, which showed on page iii (3) a additional side view drawing of the F-22B. So a two seat Raptor is possible!

Actually Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) guided LGB?
Enhanced Laser Guided Bombs (ELGB) are enhanced with additional GPS guidance capability, to enable improved operational flexibility and employment under adverse weather conditions such as heavy clouds coverage, minimizing laser use (stealth) or presence of countermeasures. With the addition of GPS capability, the LGB can “memorize” the laser spot location, and continue to navigate to this spot for up to 10 seconds after the laser designation goes off for any reason. The weapon can also be employed in GPS only mode, attacking targets whose coordinates are known. The Enhanced Paveway interfaces with the aircraft avionics over the Mil-Std 1760 armament bus, and can be programmed to memorize up to eight target locations, to enable rapid retargeting during flight. When 1760 is not available (older aircraft), the weapon can be programmed with one target prior to takeoff, and engage targets designated by coded laser, when such signals are detected.
I tought only the RAF have ordered the EGBU-27 / Paveway IV yet!

stealthy travel pods
Or why not like those travel pods on the F-117? 😉
A short story in near future:
Man: “Hey, sweetheart,I ‘ve got good and bad news! What do you want to hear first?”
Wife: “Both!!!” 😡
Man: “Well, the bad news is, our wing is departing oversea 🙁
and the good news is, we can take my Raptor as a furniture truck!!!” 🙂
😀 😀 😀

stealthy weapons pods as fuel tanks?
In the article, that Deino send, and in the Flight International article from this week, that the FB-22 will also be fitted with two 2,270kg-capacity stealthy weapons pods on the wing’s inboard stations.
IMO these pods should be buildt anyway – even if the FB-22 will never be buildt- they should be also used as stealthy fuel tanks!!!
So the F/A-22 and FB-22 have extra fuel and keep still stealthy!!! 😎

Ohio-Class SSGN’s
It will take time until a SSN/SSBN/SSGN can lauch and recover a UCAV.
In the meanwhile, the first four Ohio-Class SSBN’s are transformed into SSGN to carry nearly up to 160 tomahawks and SEAL teams.

But that is navy forum theme! 😉

GAF Jagdbombergeschwader 33
Officially there are now B-61 Mk 10 stationed at the Jagdbombergeschwader 33 (FighterBomber Wing 33) near Büchel/Cochem. 😉 😀
During my military draft (in Germany still 9 months 😮 ) I was stationed at the staff of JaBoG 33. So that’s why I know following information:
The GAF Tornados there can be equipped with the “Sonderwaffen” (special weapons) B-61’s. In the cockpit, a comrade told me, there is american hardware, an extra display, to drop the weapon. Some aircraft shelters are combined by an tunnel system. The weapons are stored in an high security ammunition shelter and are transported in a case to a aircraft shelter. The weapons is elevated trough a shaft into the shealter, where it can be mounted on the Tornado.
In the aircraft shelter only security authorised soldiers could walk near that weapon shaft. Once a comrade walked around there, he was on camera, and a few minutes later he had a M16 in his neck.
Because the Federal Republic of Germany is not allowed to have WMD’s (Reasons: history (WW2), constitution and the “2+4 treaty” from 1990), the USAF is in charge of the weapons. In Büchel it is the 817. MUNSS.
The 817. MUNSS controls the inner circle around the high security ammunition shelter and the SS “S” (Sicherrungsstaffel “Sonderwaffen”, NOT Schutzstaffel) of JaBoG 33 controls the outher circle and the aircraft shelters.
During the Cold War the was always an aircraft with engines on, pilot(s) and B-61 on board ready for take off.
Still a few years ago the GAF told the press and public, that only american pilots can drop the bomb.
Tell me, which USAF pilot can fly a Tornado?  😉
But still GAF soldiers can only train loading a Tornado with a B-61 (Training version) when USAF soldiers supervise.
I remember seeing a pic the german magazine “Der Spiegel” showing a Tornado being loaded with a B-61 training bomb. Maybe other german readers like Deino might have the pic.
Source: Der Spiegel, 3.02.2001 : “… Die Atomwaffen lagern unter amerikanischem Verschluss, selbst Attrappen dürfen nur unter Aufsicht von US-Soldaten an die deutschen Flugzeuge geklinkt werden. …”
Btw, just after 9-11, the weapons weren’t transported by trucks, but by C-141’s. Normaly the weapons roatate during periods of time, and road transport was that time too dangerous.
Most of this information is known by the public, since officially the defence minister a.D. Scharping confirmed the existence of special weapons at JaboG 33.
But maybe soon there will be no special weapons stationed anymore at Büchel, not because of peace activists, but because of conversion of NATO and American forces in Europe.
Anyway, the german Government says that when JaboG 33 transfer from Tornado to Eurofighter from 2012 on, that the Eurofighter won’t be qualified for special weapons like the B-61’s.
Notice: The article was written before 9-11!!!
Those B-61’s will be carried then by Polish F-16’s!
