    More ‘959 photos

A buddy of mine took these shots of her yesterday on the ramp at Lone Star down in Galveston.

His comment was that she is perfect in every way. I hope to see her around town.

    Hope you like his photos.

I looked around on the net and found that the Academy P-40 is indeed 1/48 scale but it is a reproduction of the Hobbycraft P-40B. Typically, that kit isn’t regarded as one of the best or most accurate. I’ve read that there are also some fit issues with it.

The three I listed are definately considered the best available for each variant of P-40. In fact, I might run out right now and pick me up the Hasegawa E model.

Also if you can find it, the Arii/Otaki P-40E isn’t all that bad and will be really cheap. It is an old kit but it isn’t that bad. Probably the biggest gripe about it, is that the leading edge of the wings have a rearward sweep to them but otherwise, the kit isn’t that bad.

The new Hasegawa is still the most accurate and your best bet for a fall together kit.

Hey Mark if you want a P-40, you might want to check out the new Hasegawa E model. Go to http://www.hyperscale.com and you can find a review of it and a nice picture of it all built up. It looks to be the best E model available so far. If you want a B model, look for the new Trumpeter kit. There should also be a review of it on Hyperscale. As for a N, try finding the Mauve/Eduard kit or the AMT/Ertl kit. I don’t remember if there are any XP-40Qs out in 1/48 scale.

Oh yeah, all of the above are 1/48 scale. Also, Hyperscale is an excellent site for not only reviews/previews of new and old kits, but you can also send in photos of your models and Brett will post them. It is the best modeling site that I have found.

Can any of you guys around Ray and ‘959 tell me if he is planning on attending any events with the machine?

The main reason I’m asking is because I volunteer with the Collings Foundation here at Ellington and the B-17, B-24, and B-25 are coming to town with the tour from April 1-4. We will also have the rest of the local stuff outside like the F-4, UH-1E, T-33, Tracker, and some other Ellington based machines like some L-39s, 3 Mig-21s, and a few others.

However, I am in the process of trying to get some more WWII stuff there to go with the bombers and vets that are going to show up. I would really like to invite Ray and the Spitfire down for the event.

I am in the process of trying to find someone with some P-51 contact info and I’m hoping I can entice a certain forum member with a Sea Fury to come down. The CAF P-63 is on the field now and we are going to talk to them about towing her over and I may also try to talk to a local Skyraider owner about coming over.

If you guys could help me out with contact info or just any information at all regarding Ray and the Spitfire or even any other planes I would greatly appreciate it. We would love to have them attend. You can PM me or e-mail me with whatever details.

    Thanks,
    Ryan
