There are only two in storage……
The Lun in dry dock at Kaspiysk and its civilian version – ‘Spasatel’ inside a hangar at Nizhny Novgorod.
The KM (Caspian Sea Monster) in the photo is long gone – having crashed due to pilot error in December 1980.
There is an A-90 ‘Orlyonok’ at Khimki in Moscow – now a museum piece.

Can these planes land in a stormy sea.
PS90-A2 has some components from EU as per wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviadvigatel_PS-90
Regarding Boeing/Airbus, I was not talking about complete airplanes but just engines. Russia cannot export Tu-204 to Iran because of engine issues, I suppose. It has been stated somewhere that even Russian airlines do not want to fly Russian built planes, if it were just due to fuel-consumption, the Russian government could easily subsidise the fuel cost (being one of the biggest oil exporter in the world).
Soviet Union/Russia spent huge amounts of money on it’s aviation industry,
regrettably without any tangible benefit to its economy in the commercial aviation.
The most relaible PS-90 series engine has quite a few components from EU and US.
The lack of global support also stems from their unrelaibility. Customers don’t want to buy unrelaible engines. No customers, no global support.
It’s not just fuel efficiency, but lack of relaibility as well.
Why Russia is so backwards in turbofan technology when it comes to airliners.
Mr. JSR’s writing style is very familiar to a famous past poster star49/h177.
just an observation
I read somewhere that china is planning to produce a version of An-70 but with turbofan engines.
Is there any thing wrong with propfan engines.
What about the element of emotional or psychological support, when comparing 1 seat vs 2 seats.
There may be stressful scenarios, where 2 pilots are better than 1.
Of course the MiG-29K is an excellent aircraft- it’s a MiG-29M development (facilitated by Indian $). The IN follow-on order for 29 will probably have the Zhuk-AE- a retrofit is no big deal.
I’d be absolutely staggered if the Kuznetsov’s new air-wing didn’t have the AE.More interesting still is the avionics upgrade for the 60 IAF MiG-29As, any concrete details anyone? (Sorry to stray outside the remit of this thread).
I suppose this radar is an AESA.
In the past, Russian radars were considered to be inferior to western ones. What is IAF’s general assessment about Russian radars.

What leverage does China have over the UAE?
The fact that it is the super-power of the near future.
We are not opening that can of worms again here!
Somehow it just doesn’t seem right when 228 people have just lost their lives.
GA
In fact it was the very loss of 228 lives, that prompted me to ask this question.
But nonetheless, if you feel that this in inappropriate question, I apologize…
regards.
For fear of a flame war, I’m biting my tongue!
strange………
Is there something wrong with giving one’s honest opinion, especially when it is a matter of human safety.
From what I understand, there is no mechanical linkage between the pilots and the control surfaces on the A320/A330/A340/A380.
Is it safe ? A hydraulic mechanical mechanism with a “completely” independent power source should be there.
By independent power mechanism, I mean a small power generator (with its own fuel tank).
I understand that there is a secondary APU for power generation, but there should be 3 layers of protection.
Are all the Airbus air-crafts un-flyble in the event of a total electrical failure (due to the loss of fly-by-wire mechanism).
Is’nt the fly-by-wire system in modern airliners just for pilot-aid (keeping the AC with in boundaries of safe maneuvering). It’s failure should not render the AC in-operable per se.
Whats the difference between B747 and modern aircraft in this regard ?
Are’nt people tend to be more direct and straight forward in west.
Norway could have simply told the sweden that they want F-35 (after all it is better than Gripen in RCS department). What possible ramifications could have been for such an an explict statement.
By the way, is Sweden allowed to sell the Gripen to China, or is it under some kind of EU imbargo ?
