In 1991, both ATF contractor teams told USAF that the state of the art for microprocessors and memory would require a technology refresh every 7 years. Then Clinton took office in january 1993 and the cycle of “death by a thousand cuts” started. After 5 rounds of cuts, there was no money for tech refresh or a maintenance program and software development got pushed downstream. The Bush administration didn’t restore any of the original funding, but they didn’t continue to cut budget either. Welcome to the reality of a 20 year old design and liberal politicians who don’t understand advancements in technology. Just try to find a repair part to fix your 1999-built PC.

But will it be too difficult or expensive to upgrade the backend processors ? Probably the avionics are highly modular, and the designers would have kept the option for upgradation (as long as the software is not tied to a particular type of processor, a highly unlikely event)

    Gripen Radar

Is the gripen radar purely swedish or a product of europeon cooperation.

No, in that case dead serious.

Range on internal fuel at supersonic speed. (from that the climb and landing distances have to be subtract – Mach 2,35 > 50000 feet)
So I stick to the total to avoid own calculations about that.
    MiG-25P = 1250 km
    MiG-25RB= 1635 km with 5300 l ET = 2130 km
    MiG-25BM= 1920 km with 5300 l ET = 2510 km
    MiG-31= radius of action at Mach 2,35 (100% internal+4 R-33 AAMs)
    720 km

The Mach 2+ interceptor with long legs high up.
For that it is famous and it does come from its unique propulsion system. The military value of high-speed interceptors is another question. 😉

What would be aerodynamic/speed/range performance, if this aircraft is built with technolgy of today e.g. composite construction, engines with modern metallurgy and digital control (FADEC), FBW for drag reduction etc……..

With today’s technology, what is the optimum for BVR attack, having a dedicated WSO, or the pilot alone can do the job. Superficially, it does appear that having two persons is always better

On the other hand, people could learn to speak and write English correctly.

    Languages keep evolving, so …………

Seeking to cut corners smacks of laziness.

and insisting on irrational grammer rules is what ? silliness or sillyness 🙂

(please do not take it seriously, it is just a light-hearted comment)

    That’s laziness, Garry.

    Not lazyness. :diablo:

lazyness is more “natural”, you just take the standard word, and add “ness” to that.

English is an international language and as such the grammatical rules should be made more “logical”.

Any ideology that advocates flogging a woman for being raped can only be regarded as vile.

May I ask, how did you come to believe that sharia advocates flogging of the victim of rape

Obvioulsy inlet-design is critical for achieving higher speeds, but TJ may be natural choice for higher speed air-crafts. If I am not mistaken, Concorde uses TJs.

when i asked niip – the answer was clear, state cabinet of security decides what is exported. someone like that or somesuch thing. they even helped me try and understand what they were saying, but my note taking couldnt manage.

Since you have had a first-hand interaction with NIIP, I would assume that you work in defense industry and I would like to ask a few questions

    – What is your *honest* opinion about russian radar technology. Is it on par with western ones. Given that some of the avionics and the ECM equipment on MKI is not of Russian origin, it does raise some suspicion about russian radar tech also, India may have been forced to buy russian radar, simply because weapons would’nt work with any other radar. (please note that its just my general opinian, based upon what ever is available on internet)

    – The fact that China does not have top notch russian radars may also imply that it feels that own radars are comparable or will be shortly. While again I do not have any hard facts, however I work in telecoms and chinese equipment (huawei) is now considered almost to be on par with such giants as Ericsson, Nokia-Siemens, Lucent-Alcatel etc, quite an achievement imho.
