I too have that Aeroplane spotter mag, from memory it mentioned an Avro 504 and a DH60, will try and track it down.

In that pic of Silverstone the large grass area on the left was used by The World Aerobatic Championships in 2009. The largest aircraft was a An-2 support aircraft. The area is now used as the main heliport.
On the subject of motor sport at airfields there is Santa Pod drag strip aka ex RAF Podington in Northants I think.

I was there a couple of weeks ago for a quick visit as I have to see a customer around the corner. The galleries were taped off and the place was full of school parties so not a quick visit, just enough to catch the new arrivals.

I was thinking about the lack of books on this subject the other night. Has anybody produced a GW book similar to the excellent ‘Falklands-the air war’. Would love to read about the Jags and Buccs and how they fared in operations.

I haven’t got a clue Baz… one of the strangest beasts I’ve seen! Looks like it should have been flown by Dick Dastardly trying to catch the pigeon 🙂

My thoughts exactly, sugging, frugging, rigging, rugging Dick Dastardly!
Guess it is some sort of early flying bomb as it appears to have no cockpit. The RAE at Farborough produced a flying bomb in the 30’s but its was noting compared to this ‘double exposure’ machine.

Maybe they should change the name to the French translation of ‘money pit’! Good luck to them but I feel they are waisting their time and money. Concorde was an very expensive airliner to operate.
Unless you get Air France or BA to operate( see those pigs fly!) the aircraft under their AOC on limited supersonic charter flights you have a situation of mabe no more than 10 flights before the project goes bankrupt should it ever get off the ground!
Europe in general has an awfull record for keeping former airliners in the air. Apart from Air Atlantique and the Swiss (Breitling Conni, Ju52’s etc),plus hopefully the Lufthansa L1049G’s there are no old airliners flying in the EU. No Viscounts, Caravelles or BAC111’s.
Really until Airbus and Rolls-Royce state their posistion on the project they should hold on to their cash. Or they could give it to me!

Saw this this morning heading north on the M3, sadly I was going south bound. Good to see a SK going to a museum, hopefully many more will follow soon.

Where did the BMA fly their Shorts 360 to? Seems odd to see that in Heathrow, knowing that the smallest commercial aircraft at Heathrow today is, perhaps, the Erj135! (Correct me if im wrong!)

I think the BMA S360 used to operate to East Midlands I think? There was also an Air Eccose SD360 that did Aberdeen at about 8am as the Air UK examples. Those photo take be back to my teenage years of getting the bus to LHR from Reading £2.20 return , 20p to get into the Queens Building, a cheap day out and loads of numbers in the book! I would guess the photos date from around 1984-85. I loved that Alia Tristar scheme, even if it didn’t last long.

I well remember G-N94AA at heathrow and posaably some of the others? They were in standard BA scheme but with unique regs. The theroey was they were G red until they were handed over to Braniff crews at IAD and returned to G- when they left later for LHR. Anybody got a photo with the
    G-N reg?

G-AERV is very much alive and well and based at Turweston. I don’t think it flies too much as it always seems to be at the back of the hangar when I have been there.

How about the Eastern Airways DC-3’s(G-AMPO was one) that operated into LHR for a while around 1980. Think it was a gimmick and they were later replaced by SD330’s.
