If we are talking Hendon I would say very little. Probably the return of the Battle, perhaps a Tornado F3 and I assume the Hampden when it is finished? I can’t see a Nimrod there, probably Cosford, either way its a road trip. Lets face it once the Harrier and Tornado are retired there will not be much left that will be easily transportable apart from the Dominie.
Oh I forgot about the Boston that is supposed to be on the way. Hopefully they will concentrate on filling gaps, not that there are too many except the heavies of late 30’s and early ww2 that are extinct.
From what I understand if the airports operator is wound up ownership will return to the city council who are the free holder. It is likely that they will reopen the airport so it is likely to be just a short term closure , hopefully?
Sadly NIMBYS blocked a new terminal so the two airlines moved out a year ago. Hopefully this won’t affect Air Atlantic too much and will be over soon?
have a look at http://http://www.won winglo.scale-models.net/id39.htm. It has a history of Baginton including a photo of G-SIXB in Greenlandair scheme which may or may not help? Only had a qick scan through so may be some refrences to DC-4’s burried in the text?
Passing this afternoon the Drover had been dismantled , didn’t see a lorry so it may be transported tomorrow? The Meteors and Prentice were still there, didn’t have time to notice the rest as I drove past. Lets hope they all go on to better places.
Brief Glory by E.C. Cheesman published 1946 and a history of the ATA long out of print.
Deviating from the thread to what are you writing now. Trying to kick start a history of White Waltham plus putting tougher a presentation on Blackbushe for the flying club there following my first book on that subject.
Passed Lasham this morning after going to rememberance. Museum was shut up, no other aircraft have moved so far apart from the Auster. F-104 is lacking its nose cone and most of the others are in their normal sorry state. Only the Meteor F8 looks to have been worked on reciently? Hopefully these aircraft will move on to safe homes in the near future for some much needed TLC.
Adding to this have heard the Sea Prince is going into store at Booker, the Drover is heading to the only place it should be in the UK and one of the Meteors and maybe the F-104 are going to ‘Poland’? Andbody able to confirm of deny these rumors???????
Think its Hooton Park, the hangars look right and Martin Hearn did a lot of work on Bostons there.
This is all good news, those aircraft have been rotting away for long enough. There had been quite a few people working on the aircraft over the summer when I have been passing. Supprised me as I had seen no activity there for years. Would have gone to see what was happerning today, but even the birds have been walking:(.
Most of the big events this year have gone but Silverstone is hosting the World Aerobatic Championships in August with a small show on the Saturday, its open to the public Friday too which is when I will be going.
Look at….

The continued existance of the Labybird had almost turned into a legend in its self. One thing that has always puzzeled me is that in the coulpe of photos I have sen the aircraft has its c/n painted in large letters on the fuselarge, did it ever carry its civil registration?
The FAAM at Yeovilton had a large Falklands exhibition but not sure if it is still there? I think there is a small museum on the islands, not somewhere you can just pop down to for a weekend though!
From what I heard on the grapevine ,from somebody who is having problems with the CAA with his light aircraft, its not just TFC who are having problems. He said that there is a new woman at the CAA who is trying to make a name for herself, so hopefully it will just be ‘blip’.
I understand they flew into a mountain in bad weather IIRC. Would be interested to know if there were others on board.
according to the British Independant airlines book East Anglian Flying Services, that became Channel in 1962, operated during that period….
