I never heard about that before.

If I was in charge, I’d buy the JF23 design and develop it into an operational fighter able to kick the F22’s **** šŸ˜€

For Rafale I was hinting at the UK perhaps leaving the JSF programme.

    Won’t happen…

Well, all this is is “spin” put on a budget cut… the money that would have been spent later for the AESA will be spent now (no change in total avionics budget); while money is being removed from the purchase fund… the total funds being spent on Rafale is being reduced… as is the number bought!

    So what is the difference?

Difference is that it wasn’t even sure if the french rafales would be ordered/retrofited with an AESA or improved anything. And it’s 8 planes out of a lot.

If you want to complain about real budget cuts, just use google and you’ll find plenty about the Rafale too.

I’m very sorry for you that you don’t get as many F22 and F35 you wanted, but it’s no reason to rant on an internet forum.

Hum I think the 4014 is infamous for being marked with 1 confirmed kill, plus 13 kills that probably were the result of the imagination of a high ranking Iraqi pilot… who went on to become a general because he was one of the first four iraqi pilots trained on the Mirage.

    It’s too funny.

On the one side we got american N°1 who says this:

Mirage F1 had better missiles than Iranian F4E, which explains why it kicked Phantom ass despite the Mirage being an inferior plane…

And on the other side we got the american N° 2 who goes:

“A medicore fighter with medicore AAMs not multirole”

Make up your mind guys, this is pretty ridiculous :p

Needless to say I totally disagree with the Mirage F1 not being multirole. It was used by Iraq in a big variety of roles. Fighter, Strike, CAS, reconnaissance, EW warfare with Caiman pods, Ship strike… how much more versatile could it be?

Then the only advantage of the Tomcat would be the Aim54… Mirage 4000 didn’t have any similar weapon. WVR I think it would eat the cat alive though. Super 530D would be at least as good as the AIM7E, and WVR the 4000 would eat the Tomcat alive IMO.

A land fighter doesn’t have the extra shock you get when you catch the arrestor hook either.

Anyway the missile isn’t the issue there; the F14D could very well be equipped with the AMRAAM… it wasn’t so it could be used as an argument to axe it I suppose, saying it wasn’t equipped with the most modern AAM.

If Argentina decides to take back the Falklands, it sure as heck better do it before the F35 and the future RN carriers make it into service… or else they’re screwed in my opinion.
