When you attempt to cut corners on the flight deck you are not able to carry out high tempo operations like the US Navy. Lower safety standards equal injury or death. At the end of the day its your call.

With that sort of logics you end up with bicycle cops with shorts & helmets 🙁

Aren’t we all communists in Europe, in American eyes, with our welfare states, social democratic governments, strong unions etc… 😀

    OK, it’s off topic…

In the Austrian society there is a strong tendency to get rid of the armed forces. Many politicians supports these tendencies and argues for it.

Well the EU is pretty much the USSR 2.0

Still not 12 and 1 drop tank (1000L) or 10 Meteor and 3 drop tanks (4000L) though. MICAs are only roughly equivalent to ASRAAMs except without true fire-and-forget capability outside the acquisition range.

He said 6 Mica + 4 Meteor. That’s what he said & that’s what you replied to. Don’t try the little monkey strategy on me.

    http://www.mbda-systems.com/e-catalogue/#/solutions/ground/4/performance

MICA VL – “up to 20km.”

One knows you are lying when you bring documentation on the Mica VL to make a point on the Mica. Do you think you’re debating with 5 year olds or something?

And the ASRAAM is lighter (lighter warhead, no need for datalink, no need for TVC).

Which is why it has less range.

ASRAAM has no requirement for a datalink because its LOAL is fully autonomous, allowing multiple targets to be engaged in salvo fire. It is the only missile with this capability.

Your Mica VL has salvo fire capability from the link YOU posted. Oh wait it’s not even the Mica but the SAM version. Nevermind. Mica can be launched @ 1 second intervals. That’s salvo in my book.

At 88kg with a 166mm rocket motor it is also the fastest SRAAM in the service.

& me who actually thought that the fastest missile was the one that went the faster, not the one which weight 88kg & has a motor of 166mm.

Given the radar performance quoted above most of this is irrelevant. There is no comparison between the Typhoon and Rafale in the A2A role. People became obsessed with fuel after stealth fighters hit the scene, failing to realise that that larger internal fuel loads were related to stealth not performance.

Which is why the swiss air force rated the rafale significantly higher than the EF in offensive counter air & defensive counter air :eagerness:

How do you work that out. It has 12 stations that it can use for weapons and 2 for pods. 2 of those 12 are taken up by a centre drop tank, leaving 3 on each wing, one where each wing meets the fuselage and one on each wing-tip. So that’s one drop and 10 AAMs.

    2 Mica on wing tips
2 Mica on outer wing pylons
2 Meteor on middle wing pylons
2 1250 or 2000L fuel tanks on inboard wing pylon
    2 Meteor on conformal pylons
2 Mica under the belly (I don’t know if Meteor fits).

    That’s 10 AtoA missiles & up to 4000 L fuel.

+ All Rafales are plumbed for CFTs already.

Could the Mig have dropped bombs in Bosnia and Libya?.

While interesting this is off-topic. I’d suggest it deserves its whole thread in the missiles section of the forum.

When you compare the Mig 25RB & Sr71 cost/impunity ratio, I think there’s no contest.

Commander of the Iraqi Air Force just announced that France has offered to sell Iraq a squadron of Rafales!!

In the past the French had flat out refused selling Rafale to the Iraqis. Lets see what will happen with this!

Now the merrickans are going to offer amraams to prevent that.

I see the point you are making, but Iraq will not be ordering all the weaponry it will use on its F-16s now. The potential capability the Block 52 represents is much much more then dropping bombs. As people have mentioned, you can expect at least the C5 version of the AMRAAM at some point

Oh and when? Under what conditions?

For a aircraft that can carry Harpoon, HARM, Sniper pods, DB-110 Recce pods, advanced EW suites to be called “LGB dispensers”!? WOW.

Even if it could carry klingon stealth devices, if you’re not allowed to have them what good is it?
