Yes, flyglobespan.com is a strange one alright, more like a mini Air Berlin because of its mix of scheduled and charter routes. I’d like to see their balance sheet also. I wreckon easyJet could really hit them if they wanted to but don’t seem to be very interested in regional UK markets anymore probably to concentrate on mainland Europe.
Another similar operation is Transavia but again has wealthy parents and is very well run and profitable (I think). Whatever the result, the curent market is dangerous for small low cost carriers especially with fuel prices but good for the consumer of course (until they get stranded when xyz air.com goes bankrupt). Interesting times ahead for sure but I’m just glad I work for one of the more survivable carriers. 🙂
I agree, amongst the low fare (not low cost-most make no money) there will have to be co-operation at the very least or else it’s going to be good night to a few of them.
Air Berlin will be raising extra funds shortly to plug that leak they have in their accounts. They will have to become fully transperant in their dealings from now on because of the stock market floatation which will mean hard times ahead for them.
However HLX+Thomsonfly(TUI), and Germanwings have rich parents so should be okay for the moment but for the medium term I worry about Jet2, bmibaby and the rest of the niche players who don’t have access to cash should they need it.
I don’t see EasyJet and Ryanair stepping in for anymore takeovers anytime in the near future.
Just to be pedantic, Bergamo is closer to Milan than Malpensa hence ‘Milan Bergamo’ 🙂
Hehe, you better get used to it, we’re (Ryanair) here to stay 🙂 and it’s going to get worse in the next 2 weeks!
The fleet at DUB is going from 10 to 15 based aircraft not including all the others on delivery, spare, training and on maintenance so the total will usually be 17-20 overnighting.
It still pales when compared to Stansted who can have around 36-38 Ryanair aircraft overnighting. Every day when I see the fleet lined at 6am, it’s a really proud moment to see all the harps lined up and all of this has come out of our little crappy ole airport at DUB haha.
reddy
It should be easier than the Ryanair case to find the clown due to the allocated seating. What is that makes pepole do this? Does it just come naturally to be such a jackass or do you learn it somewhere?
As I said before, I’d love to be first in line to hang this guy(?) by his bits from a lampost 🙂
I sincerely hope the person responsible for the note is made to pay compensation to each and every person inconvienenced before being hung by his nuts from the nearest lampost. 😮
People like that should be barred from flying anywhere ever again..the walk would be good exercise anyway.
The new runway will replace the current RWY29 which is used turboprops and ocasionally 146s. It’ll be 3110 metres or about 500m longer than the current main RWY28. Yep, handy for the A pier as it’ll more than likely be used for departures.
The planning permisssion is still subject to appeal and this country is completely illogical when its comes to planning so who knows 🙁
Some 732s were scrapped, 2 went to Adam Air in Indonesia, at least 3 went to Lan Chile, one went to Teebah? which is operating in Iraq and EI-CJI is now G-FIGP (Formula 1 reg) with Eurpean Air Charter.
Also Dreamliner 737-800 EI-DCL now has colour matching winglets 🙂
Don’t forget to add on the £30-60 “taxes and charges” so you get a truer picture of the fares available.
Notice how it’s only 600,000 more passengers on those routes from the time they start them until the end of time, and not an annual 600,000 pax. So it seems blindingly obvious that they are lumbered with an enourmous 738 order and are doomed to spend forever and a day adding “thin” and “thinnner” routes.
Butif they mean annually, it’s just 66% loads (calculation performed on a steam-driven abacus). Bit less than what they carry at the moment => yield won’t be too great if there are plenty of free seats!
As Robertt says, what a load of cack. £45.00 return taxes charge is what BA.com is quoting for MAN-ABZ with Ryanair.com quoting taxes of £25.96 with a total fare of £30.94 return all-in. It’s the same for all the routes out of MAN. The £16 ‘fuel surcharge’ doesn’t do any favours for BA.
The 600,000 pax per year is a pessimistic standard forecast which estimates 300,000 pax per aircraft per year. Ryanair will have absolutely no problems placing aircraft ever (TOP SECRET..watch out for even more orders before the year end). Pax loads in Spain and Italy are at bursting point and they will see lots of new bases in the near future. 🙂
It’s the maturity of the UK market which means that priority is with the UK regions at the moment in order to prevent rivals from getting a grip on the market. MOL has stated that he still sees ‘huge potential’ in the UK regions ie outside London.
The reason the winglet is more square at the join with the wing is that Aviation Partners Boeing hold the patents and therefore the rights to make them ‘blended’ which is superior to the Airbus winglets (allegedy).
Are you a Ryanair pilot/employee then?
Yep, First Officer and loving it.(except the getting up 4am part 😮 )
Here’s a pic of Ballykelly etc. If you take a ruler or a piece of paper, it can be seen that both of the main runways at Ballykelly and Eglinton line up perfectly. If Limavady is mistaken to be Ballykelly you can see how this can happen. Indeed Loganair did the same thing and the crew tried to cover it up by departing again 😉
If Ballykelly’s runway is not in use it should have the ‘Xs’ painted on it to warn pilots.
Lessons to be learned again.
Both pilots grounded until further notice pending report. Michael O’Leary isn’t mad, it wasn’t his aircraft. The saying ‘all publicity is good publicity’ is very true. It happens quite regularly even as navigation equipment becomes more reliable, it’s not the first and won’t be the last time.
As with all aviation incidents it appears a string of very simple factors led to this landing (go-around, navigation aids off for calibration, distracted controller, proximity and layout of mistaken airstrip) which will come out in the investigation. There’s lessons to be learned for everybody.
For the Ryanair haters, let those of you who have never made a mistake throw the first stone. If you knew what you were talking about you wouldn’t be so quick.
We also have another saying for the haters; FTB (F~~@ The Begrudgers)
Going completely off topic now.
I think a pilot landing at the wrong airport is one true classic reason never to go with FR.
Fair enough but bear in mind that Ryanair are now operating close to 1000 flights per day in an extremely intensive non-stop operation. The amount of waffling that goes on is hilarious. 😮
Erm, there’s tables and window shades(!) fitted to all the 738s. Maybe not always clean but there none the less.
