Some insane thought to stay polite.

In a state of denial, you think nukes are produced for exhibition, and only deterence and not to be used when the stakes are high. The best form of deterence is no deterence at all. Think of it philosophically.

Go and look up how many Russians live in cities, & what proportion of economic activity they account for. Russia, as an organised state, would disappear, as would a very large proportion of its population & most of its economy. Whatever might be eventually rebuilt would be much smaller, as any fringe nationalities not nuked would begin governing themselves (no choice, really), & neighbours would move in to restore some kind of order & restore the flow of raw materials, potentially fighting over the scraps. One would expect the Chinese to grab much of Siberia, Japan to reclaim some islands, etc., etc. There’d be a lot of undamaged land, but not Russia, as a significant state.

Now, let’s get back to reality. There will be no nuclear war between Russia & the UK, however much you want it.

But I said the whole island would be nuked.
Question: Has Britain even a hypothetical ABM to protect London? nope
Some productive citizens would remain and come of their holes in Moscow and other large cities.

    David Milliband must shup up.

Who cares? No more England and no more Russia.

Some 95% of Russia would remain and zero% of Britain would flare up in clouds and debris. Plus Russia can practically repel some of Britains with her ABM. Has Britain even any hypothetical ABM ?

Area of Britain is 209,331 km2
    Area of Russia 17,075,400 km2

Russia is 81.57 times bigger than Britain.
Do you know how large that is?

    Neither is Russia.

Russia is not a coward, I challenge you to read Russian history very well.
well for South Ossetian of 70,000 people, and even more for Russians in Ukraine.

Russian doctrine is if anybody be it King kong of the West, being the greatest of all touch a Russian or spill a blood of a Russian would pay a price.

The reason why Russia didn’t interfere in Serbia is that, serbians being historical allies are not Russian citizens or full blooded Russians.

Putina is pissing into the wind. The chest beating may improve his ratings on the home front but it will bite Russia in the ass HARD in the end

That is what you think, it is your opinion, the internaional community has nothing to do – what? To fight Russia is out of question, can’t do it and wouldn’t do it. To deprive Russia of G8, it doesn’t do Russian president any bad, if he doesn’t shake hands of pompous clowns like George Bush. WTO? nope. It brings them no profit or advantage in real terms. NATO co-operation?They want to pull out, what advantage does Russia get from NATO? Protection against whom ? Georgia, North Korea, or Iran.?

China is an oil glutton alone wants all of Russian oil, gas, and minerals and is even competing with Japan. Korea wants a pipeline of gas and oil.
Indonesia also wants one, Thailand wants one.

If Georgia was a NATO member does anyone here really think that Russia would have reacted the way they did?

What do you think? If Georgia touched South Ossetia, Russia would have acted the same. Even NATO wouldn’t allow him to take such a venture.

Today,Russia told NATO, if they touch South Ossetia it is a declaration of war on Russia.

Britain’s foreign minister, David Miliband, said Moscow succumbed to “the temptations of power politics” with its invasion of Georgia and warned Russia not to start a new Cold War. “Yesterday’s unilateral attempt to redraw the map marks a moment of real significance,” he said.

“Russia is more isolated, less trusted and less respected than two weeks ago,” Miliband added in a speech during a visit to Kiev to show support for Ukraine, which like Georgia is a former Soviet republic whose pro-Western leader angered the Kremlin by seeking membership in NATO.

David Milliband the foreign minister of Britain must be careful to be giving a wrong signal and false sense of support again to Ukraine. After this visit Ukraine quickly requestd that Russia paid more for Black sea fleet located at Sevastopol in Crimea. Russia currently pays $98million to Ukraine even though the current contract holds. He is another pompous clown. He must remember the war of 1854-1855 in which Russia defeated them. He must remember that Russia is 300 times more bigger than Britain and still nukes are pointed at them and the U.S not.

BATUMI, Georgia – A U.S. military ship loaded with aid docked at a southern Georgian port Wednesday, and Russia sent three missile boats to another Georgian port as the standoff escalated over a nation devastated by war with Russia…

According to a general any attack on South Ossetia by NATO “is a declaration of war on Russia”

Does anyone here have any news about Poti??? Most recent reports I have seen sa the Russians are still there in force.

The only news I am aware of is that Russians are still there in force, definately so, and the US coastguard ship went past Poti, the original destination to dock in batumi.

“We’re not afraid of anything,” Medvedev declared when asked on television if he feared the stand-off would lead to a new Cold War. Russia condemned a build-up of NATO ships in the Black Sea, said by the West to be delivering aid and conducting previously arranged exercises.

Has anyone heard of the Humvees Russia seized from he Georgians which contained satellite equipment. The jeeps were sent to Moscow, while the US requested them back and Russia said there was no way those jeeps could be returned.

USA is not some sacred place that no one is supposed to bomb

Tinkugadu, you touched on something,Americans always believed their homeland is sacred and untouchable, I don’t know if they know a war machine called submarine that can duck in the ocean and get near to their landmass to on leash a devastating blow or a weapon called ICBMs.

The U.S hasn’t won a war without an ally, that was the reason they lost the Vietnam war. You are right, France,Germany and even to a large extent Britain wouldn’t join the party. The U.S read into that, hence the inability to anything but only to yell. Remember when push comes to shove, from Jenghis Khan,Hitler,Napoleon,William the conqueror, they all saw in hindsight. The U.S would the other great power that would see it in hindsight.

Putin will tell the west what they want to hear and then proceed to do whatever the hell he wants. And the west is stupid enough to fall for it again, and again, and again.

Please try to read te excerpt of an article by Gareth Porter posted by Egberto above. If the West doesn’t take Russia serious that is what happens.
Arrogance, complacency, ostentation I mean empty one of course and lack of grasp of realism by the U.S and allies would always land them in this kind of problems.
