Ian – thanks for that, you’ve been an absolute star with all your efforts.

I’ll pass all your comments on and will let you know what happens.

Following one of the earlier posts, I’ve suggested contacting the RAF’s records centre to get J Murrie’s service record which will confirm whether J Murray is our man.

    Poor devils.

Fewer aircaft probably meant more commentary – more in-jokes and comments about people from Liverpool and not a great deal of info about the aircraft (or even silence when aircraft fly through.)

One day was enough for me.

Great stuff Ian. Thanks for your efforts.

I’ve passed on the info and I’m sure that it’ll all be appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    Andrew

    Guys,

Thanks for this – I’ll pass the links on and I’m sure they’ll be appeciated.

In the meantime, I had an email this morning giving me further information:-

“In the summer of 1944 John Murrie was in a Lancaster bomber, part of a 80 aircraft raid on V2 rocket sites north east of paris, using the Seine and the Eiffel Tower as a navigation marker. The raiders flew in from the west to east, flak was being fired at the aircraft on the run in to the target, John’s
Lancaster was hit badly and went into a steep dive while on fire. John managed to crawl out of the dinghy hatch on top and deploy his parachute. He survived, but all the other members of the crew, all Canadians, were killed on impact and are buried together in a small village cemetery north of paris.”

I know I’m asking a lot, since I don’t know the exact date, the squadron or aircraft number, but if any of you can fill in any of the blanks, that would be marvellous.

Sorry to hear your news Tim.

Words are always inadequate at times like these.

Look forward to seeing you soon at Shuttleworth or Duxford

Sorry to say that I won’t be able to join you on Friday for a ‘Lardy Boy’ lunch at the Runway Cafe

    Hello Little Melv,

It’ll be rather a let down not to see you arrive in the Vimy this time !

Will have the Blue Nun on ice

Sounds excellent – I’ll be there.

Isn’t the SE5a supposed to be under repair at the moment ?

    Nice photos Neil.

Glad to see you managed to get some shots from the side of the runway, without those chicken sheds in the way !

When I went on the Forum tour of BBMF, it was mentioned that it’s due to be done in 2006.

The next question, of course, is what the new scheme will be ?

That’s something that we can spend hours debating.

Be lovely to see it in white Coastal Command colours, but I’d pity the ground crew trying to keep it clean !

    What a stunning aircraft !

Having never seen one fly, it was great to see it arrive at Turweston last night.

Anyone going to Woburn today is going to get a real treat.

    Just superb.
