It is interesting, a modern, still in service, airliner now showing up in the Historic section.
Agree it is a premature end.
last image CAAC T2 with the retraction sequence almost complete (true awkward looking Trident style).
CAAC? Chinese?
I was seriously pissed when Cosford decided to scrap its Trident (and 707??).
It is about the last of its type (just 1 left?), and almost airworthy, and no matter what, we must always preserve something.
Sorry to see this one have to be made permanently clipped (wing cut) to transport it to somewhere it can bee admired for where we have been and how good we have it now.

There will be an annex at Tempelhof, some larger aircraft as the IL-14 are already there, although not on PV.
SWEET!
They should make Tempelhof *the* flight museum, and keep at least 1 runway open for flying in of guest aircraft! 😀
…. Also the fact that no bus passes the door!
??? No idea what you mean.
It’s odd how things look so different to different people Pagen – to my eye it looks like spare parts from half a dozen designs !
Great pictures though, there must be countless others in peoples draws and attics still to come.
I never found the ‘Cuda ugly or a pile of spare parts, or beautiful, certainly a fascinating design and would love to have one in my hangar. 😉
6 star out of 5!!!
Page 5 already?
that is unacceptable! Still have not answered my question!
…have to make up a new question to ask! 😉
Cheers!

I don’t think any Werke Nummer was ever established for this aircaft.
I too knew Heinz Mollenbrok very well and he visited me quite regularly. I also took him back to the crash scene and introduced him to those who captured him on 16 Aug 1940.
I wouldn’t like to say if this item can be attributed to this aircraft or not.
Is their a difference between Werk-N and Wk. N.?
and what does “Gerat” mean? (my German is practically non existent).
I have 2 Do-17 plates, and I noticed the number scheme is different, maybe to hide production numbers.
The plates here say (best I can tell):
Gerat 17.269-09
Werk-N. C361600. 108
Is Heinz Mollenbrok (I hope Adrian is incorrect). I have been looking for anyone who flew the 17’s to get opinions, and with the fortunate exception of Capt Brown, no luck.
Any old LW pilots organization I don’t know of?
Cheers!
My old boss who worked on small aircraft said corrosion issues on light aircraft are more prevalent then he noticed in past.
“Acid Rain”?
It’s great when so much of someone is know.
It all depends if its RLM 26 or RLM 23. Different fade factors.
Does that mean if I get some fresh RLM26 paint on my antenna my Digital TV will work better??
Whats really interesting, though, is the unusual placement of a second DF aerial just above the hand start apperture. And its painted bright red, too.
Nonono, that’s not right.
They mount it in the cowling front. That big round ring is perfect, and when they are pointing the airplane directly at the source, the signal is the loudest, so they know they are going the right way.
…Or is the signal behind them? 😛
Looks like quite a good dent in the front part of the cowling too… Hang on, is that replacement bit of cowling in the correct RLM shade of natural metal?! :diablo:
You are RIGHT!!
That bare metal is the wrong shade of RLM!!!
Did the LW run out of carbuna wax?
I did consider the new cowling possibility but discounted is as there appears to be some overspray of the same colour on the intake where it overlaps the trailing edge of the cowling.
But I’d hate to get into another colour debate…..!!!
Oh, and the bullet holed prop tip and Bramo Fafnir badge ARE Do17-Z with a Battle of Britain provenance. It is mounted on a perspex base made from the cockipt glazings.
Idontknow…
Haven’t found a photo to prove that configuration of parts….
Those holes meant to act like fixed slats for high power demands?
😉
Keep in going lads…..just 3,152 replies to go and we have caught up with the “Wot Plane” Thread 😀
Easy, by next week!
I hate to bring up the question of colours again, but this is a serious query. Honestly!
On the photo of the Dornier it seems the entire wrap-around cowlings are a different colour which is not something I have ever noticed before on any operational Do 17 Zs? The spinner backplate also looks to be possibly the same colour, too.
For Peter Evans – do you know the background to this image? Is it a training unit or some specialist unit, perhaps? It looks as if the cowlings could be yellow but I don’t know.
Andy,
That is a bare metal replacement cowling.
(You know about bare metal, right? 😉 )
That cowling is a wrap around, in 3 pieces, the top 2 are hinged along the top (open like beetle wings) while the bottom is drop down removed.
The white ring behind the spinner is different, I do not know what it is, but I think I saw it before, not sure.
As to different colors, I have seen a WHITE painted cowling on a desert camo 17z. I will try and find it.
I also think it is a training unit, noting lack of guns, disinterested staff, and unpainted cowling. 🙂
Thanks Peter,
Does the original post have the photo without the red ring around the hatch?
I want one without so i can print it off for display.
Flying Pencil…..SURELY you are happy now???
LW, I already believe it, and said so.
That picture which I mentioned before Peter posted proves that the placard was also mounted along a different axis
